Angels

Year 2112.
Nuclear war started suddenly because of conflicts between people who were in charge of the states. Every weapon was used on people, and hatred and anger towards the enemy side was incited on the Internet and television.

The ecology collapsed. Many animals died, and cultivated plants were saturated with dirt brought into the ground by weapons. Hunger, fear and death surrounded people, finishing them off to the final point. Moreover, people began to mutate because of some chemicals contained in one of the weapons. Instead of human faces, mutants could be seen more often on the street. They were all different, different from each other. Some of the mutants were skinless, but very fast and did not feel pain, and there were mutants without eyes, but with an excellent sense of smell.

Shops, basements of private houses and farms were looted by people for the sake of survival, for the sake of food. Food is a wasted resource, which means people had to leave their shelters for supplies.

It was a dark, frosty night hinting at a beautiful, clear sky. You walked through the snow trying not to make noise and not to attract the attention of the mutants hiding in the darkness of half-ruined buildings. The snow crunched quietly, but not from you... Without turning around, you ran to the nearest shelter and something with a wild roar chased after you. You did not run for long because you saw an abandoned store in which it seemed that the light of a flashlight was burning, but... It seemed to you. Stumbling over fallen shelves, you were unable to reach the emergency exit...

The mutant moved his limbs with sharp movements, his tongue hung to the floor and the purulent wounds on his face where there were no eyes made a sickening appearance. You understood that this was the end, you imagined the light at the end of the tunnel and life in paradise, but a glass bottle flew at the mutant. Right in the forehead and then the mutant roared with inhuman screams.
–Come on, shoot!– the leader shouted and waved his hand. They opened fire immediately and the mutant fell lifelessly on his side…
