Pearl is one of the protagonists of Steven Universe and a member of the Crystal Gems. In addition to being one of Rose Quartz's closest followers, Pearl is one of the last surviving Gems on Earth who rebelled against the Homeworld Gems to stop their invasion of Planet Earth. Upon joining the Crystal Gems, Pearl would protect Earth for millennia alongside her friends, while later training Rose's son, Steven. She belongs to the group of Pearls, who are considered servants on Homeworld. She belonged to Pink Diamond when she was a servant on Homeworld.

She has a slim body and her hair is light peach in color, short and pointed, she has large light blue eyes and a pointy cone-shaped nose. Her gem is a Pearl, which is located on her forehead. After regenerating in the episode "Steven the Swordsman", his skin tone changed from white to a light off-white color, he gained a light turquoise robe with a yellow star in the center and a large turquoise sash tied around his waist, forming a bow in the back. He wears light gold leggings, pink socks, and shoes the color of his robe. Pearl's gemstone is oval-shaped and smooth. It is located on the forehead. It is white with a pale pink color.

Pearl is very intelligent, a perfectionist, and always wants things done her way. Pearl has shown pride in her abilities and an instructive attitude. She dislikes messes, so much so that she tidies up her teammates' things, including Amethyst's room. She thinks and reasons a lot before taking any action, so she always has plans and strategies for battles; she gets upset when something doesn't go according to plan. Despite being very elegant and controlled, she easily gets angry with Amethyst when she says something she thinks Steven shouldn't hear. She is very affectionate and maternal toward Steven, and occasionally overprotective, to the point of being somewhat domineering, but always in a well-intentioned way. Of all the Crystal Gems, she is the most easily moved. She seems to be the most skeptical in her way of reacting to certain situations, as seen in the episode "The Message." She is shown to be one of the most naive of the Crystal Gems in terms of human culture, as she often questions or misinterprets certain human traditions or behaviors, such as jokes, games, and birthday parties. Her personality is the complete opposite of Amethyst's. Of all the Crystal Gems, Pearl seems to have adapted the least to life on Earth. This leads her to generally be unaware of social norms and human activities such as jokes, games, arcades, food consumption, and birthday parties. She also shows a great desire to leave Earth and return to space, as shown in the episode "The Space Race."

All Gems have varied powers, including the ability to summon a weapon, shapeshift, and superior strength and combat prowess. They can also retreat into their Gems after being injured to heal. Activating her Gem summons a spear. She is able to project holographic images with her Gem. It can be seen that Pearl is quite knowledgeable in the field of engineering and mechanics, as she was able to repair and modernize Greg's van when it was destroyed. As if this were not enough, she can build a spaceship from simple scrap, as shown in the episode "The Space Race," and also build a robot. She has also piloted the Gem Warship and managed to track Peridot with her escape pod.

Pearl possesses a vast knowledge of gem history, as she frequently tells Steven about the history of gems and their culture, as seen in the episode "The Gem of the Ocean, Part Two."

Throughout the series, it is observed that Pearl is an exceptional and very fast swordsman, and she uses dance as an art form in combat. She is also a good teacher, being able to teach Connie how to use a sword in a short time. Psammokinesis: In the episode "Giant Woman," Pearl creates miniatures of Amethyst sand, and herself, to model how to create Opal. Photokinesis: As seen in the episode "Staying Together" and later in "Knock It Down, Chile," she can project light from her gem to illuminate the path. It was later seen again in "It Could Have Been Great."

Spear: She is able to summon her weapon, a pearlescent spear. Pearl is very skilled in the art of combat, wielding her spear which goes hand in hand with her fighting style which involves dancing, specifically ballet. She moves gracefully and swiftly around the battlefield, attacking with her spear in hand. Initially, when she summons her spear, it is smaller in size, increasing its length when she waves it. Since Bismuth (episode), it became a trident, thanks to Bismuth, who forged a two-pronged assembly for it to become a trident. Energy Ball: In the episodes "Watermelon Steven" and "Runaways", it can be seen that she can create small balls of concentrated energy that come from her spear and fire them at her targets, after Bismuth made an upgrade to this spear it seems that her shot became more powerful. Energy Burst Shot: In the episode "Rising Tides, Crashing Skies", it is seen that Pearl can use her spear to fire a burst of small amounts of energy, without concentrating it. Levitation: In her battle against Sugalite, it can be seen in parts of the fight that Pearl is able to levitate, just like Sapphire and Rose Quartz. Storing Items: Pearl is able to store items within her gem, as seen in the episodes "Lars and the Cool Kids", "Mirror Gem", "Sworn to the Sword", "A Single Pale Rose" and a comic by Rebecca Sugar, it was also revealed in "A Single Pale Rose" that this ability is about a dimension where Pearl stores items and where her memories are. Norikinesis: In Connie's training, she covers the entire training ground with mist, dissipating it at the end.

Holographic Projection: She is able to project holographic images with her Gem as first seen in the episode "Burger Backpack". She is also capable of projecting past memories as seen in the episode "Rose's Sword Sheath", showing verbatim the conversation she had with Rose before the Great Gem War and also used it in "Sworn to the Sword" to show what she had done to protect Rose during the Gem War, and subconsciously project her dreams as seen in the episode "Knock It Down, Chile". Living Holograms: In "Steven the Swordsman," he creates a training hologram to explain how to use the sword, which is seen again in "Sworn to the Sword" when he trains Connie.
