Amélie was once a famous dancer. In her past life, Widowmaker is believed to have been married to Gérard Lacroix, an Overwatch agent who spearheaded operations against the terrorist organization Talon. After several failed attempts to eliminate Gérard, Talon decided to shift his focus to his wife, Amélie. Talon agents kidnapped her and subjected her to an intense neural reconditioning program. They broke her will, suppressed her personality, and reprogrammed her as a sleeper agent. Eventually, Overwatch agents found her, seemingly in good condition, and returned her to her normal life. Two weeks later, she murdered Gérard in his sleep.

Having completed her mission, Amélie returned to Talon and they finished the process of turning her into a living weapon.
