The fairy maids at the Scarlet Devil Mansion are perhaps the most numerous, yet also the most useless, staff in all of Gensokyo. Their primary job is to serve Remilia Scarlet and the other residents of the mansion, but in reality, they only create the appearance of being bustling with activity.

The hiring policy here is based on the principle of "quantity over quality." The mansion's owner, the 500-year-old vampire Remilia Scarlet, prefers to surround herself with a horde of servants to maintain her aristocratic status, even if these servants are of little use.

The fairies' working conditions are quite peculiar, reminiscent of feudalism: they receive three meals a day and a uniform, but they have no days off, no vacations, and no naps. They are not paid a salary. However, this arrangement suits them perfectly—they consider themselves free beings, can fly away from their posts at any time, and then return just as suddenly.

The only useful skills they have are cleaning their own uniforms and cooking for themselves. The real work is done by the head maid, Sakuya Izayoi—the only human in the mansion. Thanks to her ability to manipulate time, Sakuya single-handedly manages to clean the endless corridors (which are much larger inside than outside), prepare exquisite meals, and maintain order, while the fairies simply fly around and make noise.

These fairies aren't particularly useful in combat either—they're more like "cannon fodder." If an intruder manages to get past the gatekeeper, Hong Meiling, they'll be met only by a horde of weak fairies, who pose no serious threat to an experienced yokai or witch.

Koakuma is a mysterious library spirit from the Scarlet Mansion, best known through the theories of the residents of Gensokyo.

Appearance:

Hair color: long, waist-length, dark red. · Eyes: red. · Wings: Miniature black membranous wings (like a bat) on the head and a larger pair on the back. · Clothing: Black sleeveless dress with a white stand-up collar, white long sleeves, white socks or shoes.

Capabilities: Koakuma's ability is to instantly find the book she needs in a library. She is considered one of the weakest representatives of the demon race, hence her name ("little devil").

📚 Relationships in the Mansion

Koakuma is the assistant librarian to Patchouli Knowledge, helping her manage her vast library. Although she's usually seen working diligently, she's capricious, mischievous, and acts without regard for the consequences.

Origin She's an unnamed character: Koakuma has no official name. Her status is ambiguous: initially, she was called a weak demon, but it was later revealed that she's simply a being of magic.

Patchouli Knowledge is a sorceress who lives in the Scarlet Devil Mansion and manages a massive library.

Appearance: She has long purple hair and purple eyes. Her hair is adorned with numerous bows, which enhance her magical power. She wears loose, lilac or pink clothing reminiscent of pajamas and a sleeping cap with a crescent moon that glows blue. This is her everyday attire, not her nightwear. She appears to be in her 20s, although by the gods' standards, she is already around 100. Abilities: Patchouli is a "one-week sorceress," controlling the seven elements: fire, water, wood, metal, earth, sun, and moon. Her magical power is immense, but due to congenital asthma, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency, she is often unable to fully utilize her spells. Physically, she is weak and useless in close combat, but she compensates for this with a variety of powerful magical attacks. Personality and Lifestyle: Patchouli is highly intelligent, but prefers solitude and rarely leaves the library, spending all her time reading and writing books on magic. She is gloomy and taciturn, but is curious about knowledge. Her relationships with the mansion's inhabitants are complex: she is friendly with Remilia, sarcastic with Sakuya but thanks her for her services, and Meiling advises her to read more. She is portrayed as a typical hikikomori. Origin: Her name comes from the patchouli plant, and her family name means "knowledge." She is a yokai mage who has never been human and has lived for about a hundred years. Remilia calls her "Pachi."

Appearance: She has long scarlet hair and water-colored eyes. She wears a green Chinese dress with slits to allow for freedom of movement and a beret with a gold star with the character for "Dragon" (龍) written on it. Her appearance emphasizes her affiliation with Eastern culture in a world of Western yokai. She appears to be in her 20s or 30s. Abilities: Meiling is a martial artist who specializes in the control of chi (life energy). Unlike other youkai, she doesn't rely on supernatural feats, but rather on balanced physical strength and technique. Because of this, she doesn't stand out among powerful youkai like Remu or Flandre, but when fighting humans, she has virtually no weaknesses. She is capable of delivering precise strikes using both hot and cold chi, as well as healing. Personality and Job: She's unusually friendly and humane for a youkai. She's easy to chat with or catch sleeping on duty (especially during siesta), but she'll instantly thwart any attempt to enter the mansion. She's often seen as lazy, kindhearted, and a bit naive, which makes her a frequent target for Sakuya's jokes. Origin: Meiling is a yokai inspired by a Chinese mythological spirit. She has lived in the Mansion for a long time, but despite her status as a gatekeeper, she is valued as a reliable member of staff and a playmate for little Flandre.

Flandre Scarlet is one of the most famous and charismatic characters, the younger sister of the Scarlet Devil Mansion's owner, Remilia Scarlet. Due to her unstable personality and frightening power, she spent nearly 500 years locked in the mansion's basement, making her the family's "dirty little secret."

Unique Abilities:

Destruction of everything: Flandre can Destroy any object simply by squeezing her hand. According to official sources, she sees the so-called "eye" of an object—the point of highest tension. By moving this "eye" into her palm and squeezing it, she destroys the object. It is because of this power that she is kept in captivity.

Other abilities: As a vampire, she possesses superhuman strength, speed, and regenerative abilities, but is also vulnerable to sunlight and running water. In combat, she can create copies of herself (up to three).

Appearance: Flandre appears to be a young girl under 10 years old, with light-blond hair pulled back into a ponytail and scarlet eyes. She wears a red dress with a pink shirt and a pink cap with a red ribbon. Her most distinctive feature is her unusual wings, rumored to be made of iron and prism shards, with eight iridescent wings. She often holds a metal staff, presumably the mythical Laevatein, in her hands.

Flandre is described as "unhinged" or unstable due to her long isolation. While she's not usually angry, her actions often seem strange, making her difficult for others to understand. She greatly respects her older sister, Remilia, but her destructive power far exceeds her sister's.

Due to the fact that she was always fed prepared meals (which were actually prepared from people), she does not know how to properly attack people, and can destroy a victim without leaving a drop of blood. Flandre lives in the basement (dungeon) of the mansion.

Remilia is a vampire who appears to be a girl between 10 and 14 years old, befitting her eternally youthful nature. Her look is Gothic in style, with vibrant scarlet accents.

Hairstyle: She has short, wavy hair that is a soft blue (light blue) color. Face: Distinguishing feature: bright scarlet eyes. Headdress: She wears a light pink bonnet (or cap) decorated with a red ribbon with white stripes. Dress: She wears a light pink dress with a full skirt. The sleeves and wrists are decorated with scarlet ribbons with white trim.

Accessories: The girl’s neck is adorned with a necklace, the central element of which resembles a caduceus (the staff of heralds in mythology). Wings: Behind her back is a pair of large black bat-like wings. Their span exceeds her height. Parasol: Because sunlight is harmful to vampires, Remilia always carries a pink parasol with her during the day, which protects her from the sun's rays and allows her to leave the mansion.

The child's appearance and behavior:

Remilia looks and often acts like a little girl. She's selfish, willful, and demands that others indulge her many whims, such as throwing parties. She tries to maintain the image of a mysterious and formidable vampire aristocrat, acting regal and proud, especially during important events, and sincerely believes that no one she knows can surpass her. Despite her selfishness, she can be surprisingly polite. Remilia values ​​the patience of her servants (Sakuya, Patchouli, Meiling) and respects them for it. She also cares for her younger sister, Flandre, serving as a strict but loving guardian. As a result, those around her (both humans and youkai) have mixed feelings about her: she is respected and feared because of her vampire power, but at the same time, she has a certain charisma that makes even fairies remain as her servants.

No one knows for sure who she is. Akyuu from the "Perfect Diary" speculated that Sakuya was once a vampire hunter but lost to Remilia. However, there's also a theory that she's a Lunarian (a runaway from the Moon), as the wise Eirin Yagokoro was very surprised when she met her.

A skilled cook, Sakuya is a masterful cook and takes great care in preparing meals for her mistress. She can bake as many cakes and brew as much "tea" as her heart desires.

An incredible marksman, Sakuya possesses with silver knives and phenomenal precision. It is said that she can hit an apple on a fairy's head from a distance of about 36 meters.

Rinnosuke Morichika (shop owner): Sakuya is his client. She periodically visits his antique shop, Kourindou, to carry out errands for Remilia, such as finding parts to build a moon rocket. Aya Shameimaru (reporter): Aya interviewed Sakuya for her newspaper, which indicates that they are formally acquainted.

Race: She is a human, and therefore it is very easy to injure and kill her.

Arrangement: Despite all her abilities, she has to place each knife individually during the time stop.

However, it's clear that this is more a quirk of how time works in Gensokyo than an inherent limitation for Sakuya. Reversing time in Gensokyo merely moves objects back to their original location, without affecting their state. Since she can reverse time, it's logical to assume she shouldn't have any problem reversing time in a neutral universe, where this rule doesn't apply.

By manipulating Space-Time, Sakuya is able to create parallel universes to some extent, allowing her to make another Sakuya appear in front of her, doing different things than the original, thus creating a time paradox.

According to Hieda no Akyuu's words and book, she has the power to control time, a power that a person can have but cannot achieve through training alone. During battle, she always throws out literally an infinite number of knives, but this is simply explained by the fact that she stops time and then picks everything up.

Hieda no Akyuu believes that she was able to live so long while looking so young through time manipulation. It is true that Sakuya can increase the speed of an object's aging, such as how she once grew bamboo flowers in 1 day even though it would normally take 60 years, so it is safe to assume that she can slow down aging as well.

Capabilities Time Management Sakuya has the ability to manipulate time, or more precisely, control the flow of time, such as speeding up, slowing down, erasing, and stopping time. She can also compress time so that the past and future exist at the same time, which allows one object, from different time periods, to be in different places at the same time. Her ability itself is not limited to just where she is, the ability to change the flow of time she can use on another person, a specific object, or even a small area if she so desires, thus, for example, stopping time for an object and affecting space by making it stand in the air, or creating entire distortion fields in which everything will be subject to her ability.

She is also able to speed up and slow down objects from a very slow speed, to a very high speed, even reaching the speed of light, causing them to move at incredible speeds, but there are difficulties with undoing events that have already happened, and even if she rewinds time, she will not be able to return broken and damaged things to their original state, so a real rewind of time is impossible in reality, but in this way she can return everything to the places where they were originally. She has also shown the ability to erase objects of a given timeline, for example, erasing bullets from the present and future, removing them from existence. In addition to all this, she is able to manipulate space, that is, she can narrow and expand it. Thus, she made the already spacious Scarlet Devil Mansion even larger and more spacious and despite this, she cleans it alone. All this is because Time Manipulation is a synonym for Space Manipulation (as is known, space and time are related to each other as a 4-dimensional Lorentz space in the special case of a pseudo-Riemann manifold).

She is polite and gentle towards her mistress Remilia Scarlet and those close to her, such as Patchouli Knowledge, while she is much less formal with others. Towards those who constantly irritate her, such as Marisa Kirisame (Simple Magical Witch), she can be quite harsh, and can directly insult them, as well as hurt them during conversation, especially during a duel. Apparently, Sakuya does not know some basic scientific facts and things, such as the fact that humans need oxygen to breathe. She also stated that she is an atheist, despite living in Gensokyo, where a lot of Gods live. Aside from all this, Sakuya often looks confused, but this may just be good acting.

Sakuya has dark blue eyes, silver hair, with two braids on the sides tied with green ribbons and a white maid cap. She wears a white and blue French maid outfit with an apron and short sleeves. In appearance, she is a human maid of 15-30 years old, and according to Hieda no Akyuu, she looks like a girl already at the end of adolescence, but her mannerisms and strength of her abilities are on the level of a person who has lived for hundreds of years. Also, according to Remilia, she has worked in the Mansion for so long that she is not sure if it is right to call her a human now. So it can be said that she has worked in the Mansion for an incredibly long time.
