Juuzou Suzuya (鈴屋 什造すずや じゅうぞう, Suzuya Jūzō?) is a Special-Class Peacekeeper of the TSC. In the past, his name was Rei Suzuya (鈴屋れいや, Suzuya Reiya?).

His first partner was Yukinori Shinohara, and his current partner is Hanbee Abara. He was previously assigned to the 20th Ward and was in charge of investigating the "Gluttony."

At the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul: re was assigned to the 13th Ward and was in charge of investigating the "Nutcracker" Ghoul, along with his Squad.

After Arima's death, he is considered the strongest investigator (Calling him "the next Arima"). He is the current leader of the S3 Squad.

Juuzou is a young boy of androgynous appearance. He has peculiarly bright and pale skin, along with large eyes; which leads to believe that he is a girl due to his delicate features. He also has stitching marks on various parts of his body, for the simple fact that he likes them. His bangs are held up with red hairpins, forming the number 13, in Roman numerals (XIII). He wears them because Shinohara calls him "Juzo" which is short for "Juuzou". His pupils are elongated, accompanied by large dark circles, giving him a terrifying and disturbing appearance.

Juuzou wears a button-down white shirt (often rolled up to his elbows) with the top few buttons undone, an oversized suit jacket (also rolled up), black dress pants that hit just below his knees, and red suspenders with yellow polka dots. Instead of shoes, he wears red slippers.

After his reappearance in :re, Suzuya's hair is black. His right leg is a prosthetic that has compartments for carrying knives.

In the anime, he wears a scruffy, multicolored white button-down shirt with blue suspenders attached to a pair of knee-length black pants. He wears red slippers instead of dress shoes.

In combat, Suzuya wears the Standard Combat Suit of the CCG forces.

As a child, Suzuya's personality was somewhat normal, if somewhat twisted, but as a result of Big Madam's treatment, he no longer felt fear, pain, or morality. Yukinori Shinohara, his mentor, described him as a "problem child." Despite his childish and playful demeanor, he was also extremely violent and highly disturbed. He usually described his killing methods as clean, with no unnecessary movements, a skill he seemed to take pride in. He shows no hesitation in killing someone. He even goes so far as to consider it part of everyday life and is unaware of the weight of death.

Due to his past, he was blamed for the murders of multiple animals committed by Goumasa Tokage and Tooru Mutsuki during his time at the CCG academy, despite being innocent. Suzuya was used as a scapegoat, as no one doubted that he had committed the murders, which averted suspicion from the culprits who were truly responsible. Suzuya is generally wary of people who label him as a problem child; he notices and hates it when people look at him with certain "eyes," judging him.

Due to his lack of emotional understanding, he was willing to face any opponent head-on, no matter how dangerous. This had proven disastrous when he chose to confront the Owl No. 1 only when cooperation was necessary. Originally, he showed no signs of empathy and failed to understand the emotions of others. However, when he realized how important Shinohara was to him, he let out an anguished cry. This demonstrated Suzuya's ability to love and care for those close to him. After Shinohara was in a coma, Suzuya expressed his guilt and remorse for being unable to protect him, bowed deeply and apologized to his mentor's wife, and then kissed Shinohara's forehead, wishing him goodnight.

After the timeskip, Suzuya has matured considerably, becoming calmer and warmer towards others. While still retaining some of his childish traits, such as bringing candy to serious meetings, he has become a capable mentor and leader, commanding his own team of investigators. He is now somewhat able to understand the predicaments and emotions of others, giving sound advice to Tooru Mutsuki after the latter expressed his fear of fighting. Juuzou has become much more dedicated to the CCG, evident when he told Big Madam that he was going to kill her, not out of a personal grudge, but that it was simply his job to exterminate the ghouls. Despite his slight change in character, he is still quite ruthless towards ghouls.

Big Madam As one of Big Madam's former executioners, Juuzou was trained to become a competent assassin. During his youth, Juuzou tried to please Big Madam as much as possible, always putting on a smile. But Big Madam strove for perfection and tortured him based on the "grades" he received from her.

Despite years of abuse, Juuzou still calls Big Madam "Mom" and claimed that he never hated her for what she did to him. In his final goodbye to her, he referred to her as "Father," thus implying that Big Madam's background might be more complex than originally assumed.

Yukinori Shinohara The relationship between Shinohara and Juuzou is similar to that of a father and son; as Shinohara usually brings him donuts, but did not hesitate to lecture him after he brutally murdered three Ghouls without practicing the Ghoul Clauses, preventative measures in Laws. Shinohara has been shown to be very important to Juuzou, as seen when he let out a cry of anguish when Shinohara was dealt a fatal blow, and expressed regret at not being able to save him. Shinohara remained in a vegetative state for around 10 years until he finally recovered, much to Suzuya's joy.

Hanbee Abara Although Suzuya is admired and highly respected by Abara, he is hesitant to point out the times when he is useless. In addition to this, Juuzou is somewhat sympathetic towards Abara's lack of courage; as he would always step in and fight independently whenever Hanbee was reluctant to face a Ghoul. Suzuya has also been shown to be proud of Abara's ability to finally cut through a Ghoul using her sword.

Seidou Takizawa Suzuya doesn't show much respect for Seidou, as he constantly yelled at him and is annoying when Seidou tries to be too strict with him as seen when he ordered Juuzou to remove his sweets from the meeting room. However, Juuzou doesn't react to lashing out at him; as seen when he shoved his fingers into Seidou's nose, causing it to bleed excessively.

Itsuki Marude Suzuya respects Marude as a superior, but was offended and irritated when Marude openly joked about Suzuya's castration in the presence of Amon and Shinohara. However, he managed to restrain himself from lashing out at him, as Shinohara told him to ignore him. Their relationship was slightly strained for comedic purposes due to Suzuya stealing his motorcycle and using it to mount an attack on the Aogiri tree.

Kishou Arima Since becoming a researcher, he and Arima have shared a positive and professional relationship. They often participate in whack-a-mole operations together.

Koutarou Amon Suzuya is quite oblivious to his true opinion of Amon, and is relatively unaffected when scolded by him. However, he can open up when Amon becomes curious about his strange features; as seen when he explains his "Stitch Body" to Amon.

Kurona Yasuhisa and Nashiro Yasuhisa Juuzou was Kurona and Nashiro's classmate some time ago at the CCG Academy, but they don't interact with each other much anymore. He was scolded when he refused to attend the funeral of a sick classmate, and instead sat in a ditch killing ants. During the battle in Kanou's lab, he views the two sisters as playthings, considering it logical to kill them due to his position as a Ghoul Researcher. However, they leave before he is able to kill them.

After a subsequent encounter with Kurona, she showed resentment for what he did to Nashiro. She holds a strong animosity toward him, though Suzuya still believes it is part of his job to exterminate her. However, she commented that Kurona's appearance after she "fused" with Nashiro was disgusting.

Apparently he really likes donuts. Some people mistake him for a woman. He bears some resemblance to "L" from Death Note, due to his slender figure and rather pale skin, and he usually sits in a similar way to him. He doesn't look his age, because despite being 22 years old, he looks like he's 15. Suzuya is ranked 2nd in the Tokyo Ghoul character popularity poll. Suzuya's association with the number "13" is a pun: it is possible to write the name "Juuzou" with the kanji 十三, translating it to "thirteen". During Operation Owl Suppression, one of Suzuya's hair clips disappeared, reducing his number to 12 (XII); a reference to the "Hanged Man", or to change, implying that he was going to change in some way. Juuzou likes sweets, hunting Ghouls, and his mom.[4] It is noted that he is the only investigator after Kishou Arima, who becomes a special class investigator at the age of 22. Juuzou gives off a particularly sweet smell to ghouls. Suzuya's seiyū is Kugimiya Rie, who is a woman. It is possible that Suzuya is left-handed, given the way parts of his right arm are sewn together, although he has been seen wielding his Quinque knives with both hands, it is more likely that he is ambidextrous. In Tokyo Ghoul:re, Suzuya has changed the hair clips that so associated him with the number 13 (XIII in Roman numerals), to the number 20 (XX in Roman numerals).
