Count Dracula was born around 1473 to an unknown mother and Vlad Dracula (his father), who was very harsh and strict with him throughout his childhood. Dracula was a late-blooming fanged child, so Vlad used fear and other cruel methods to drive him away. Vlad also instilled in Dracula a growing hatred of humans. As Dracula grew older and moved away, he gradually stopped communicating with his father.

Sometime in the 18th century, while flying at night as a bat, Dracula collided with another bat, and they both fell to the ground. The bat he collided with turned out to be another vampire named Martha.

Dracula and Martha instantly felt something for each other and soon became inseparable. They started dating and were soon married. In the late 19th century, they had a baby girl whom they named Mavis Dracula. However, shortly after Mavis was born, a group of angry humans broke into Dracula's house intending to kill him and his family for being vampires. The humans set fire to Dracula's house and killed his wife, Martha. Fortunately, Dracula managed to escape with Mavis.

Dracula began living alone with Mavis elsewhere and raising her on his own. Like his father, he taught Mavis to fear and hate humans. To keep Mavis safe, Dracula began building a large castle where he intended to live with his daughter. After the hotel was built, Dracula took Mavis to live there, where he intended for her to live out the rest of her life. He opened the castle as a hotel so that all the monsters would be safe from humanity.

Dracula is a very charismatic and entertaining vampire with his guests and those around him, but he can be excessively controlling of what happens in the hotel and overprotective of Mavis Dracula (his daughter). However, despite his flaws, Dracula cares deeply for his friends and family and only does what he believes is best for them. At the end of the first film, it is revealed that he is a talented singer and rapper. His overly controlling personality makes him the ideal hotel manager.

Unlike his conventional portrayal, he only drinks substituted or synthetic blood because he claims modern human blood is too fatty for his liking.

He is shown to speak in gibberish when he encounters someone he finds attractive, as well as becoming nervous and somewhat shy around this person.

One of Dracula's biggest flaws is his tendency to lie when he panics, regardless of his intentions, whether selfish or good. This tendency often causes communication problems between him and his family, specifically with Mavis (his daughter) and Johnny (his son-in-law). However, he always makes up for it with sincere actions to make amends afterward.
