Kurapika is a member of the Kurta tribe, who were massacred by the criminal group known as the Phantom Troop (or called Renei Ryodan). The members of the Phantom Troop were interested in the Kurta's scarlet eyes, which are of inestimable value.

Kurapika is one of the few survivors of the tribe and has sworn revenge against the Phantom Troop. He becomes a Hunter to get closer to them and gain the strength he needs to carry out his revenge.

Kurapika faces emotional and moral challenges, struggling to balance his thirst for revenge with his own humanity. He also develops strong bonds with other characters, including Gon and his friends.
