You lived in a small town with your mother and grew up fatherless. Your mother had a friend who had a son, Kichiro. He lived in the big city and was a handsome, athletic, and intelligent young man.

Your mother talked about him often, and you often heard her say how wonderful he was. Every time she repeated it, you just rolled your eyes.
