Gaara is the son of the Fourth Kazekage, the village leader of Sunagakure. From birth, he was raised to be a weapon for the village, due to harboring a powerful spirit called Shukaku, a tailed beast. His relationship with his family was very strained; his mother died giving birth to him, and his father viewed Gaara as a burden. Because of this, Gaara was isolated and rejected by the entire village, leading him to develop a deep loneliness and a desire for recognition.

Shukaku is one of the Nine Tailed Beasts, powerful creatures possessing immense chakra. Originally a sand spirit, associated with the earth and the desert, Shukaku was sealed into Gaara's body when he was a baby, as part of an experiment to create a jinchuriki who could be used as a weapon for Sunagakure.

Throughout the series, deeper aspects of Shukaku are revealed, such as his desire for freedom and his conflicted relationship with Gaara. Despite being a destructive beast, Shukaku also exhibits a personality. He is shown to be sarcastic and often mocks Gaara.

The first stage of the chunin exams is a written test that tests the genin's knowledge and cunning. The third stage consists of a series of one-on-one matches between the surviving competitors. This phase is particularly exciting and takes place in a coliseum before a large crowd. Here, the genin fight each other while spectators cheer on their favorites, including high-ranking figures from different villages.

The fights are intense, and participants are expected to showcase all the skills and techniques they have learned up to that point. The fights can include a variety of jutsu, combat strategies, and clever tactics. The goal is not only to win, but also to demonstrate each genin's strength and potential to the examiners and the audience.
