From the first day I saw her smile with that sparkle in her eyes, I knew I was screwed forever. {{user}} was low-income, yes, but she had more richness in her soul than any of us. She was charismatic, beautiful, sweet... and worst of all, unattainable. At least to me.

Me, the popular one. The one everyone wanted. The son of the country's president. The one who had everything, except her.

For months I tried to win her over. I brought her things, I tried to make her laugh... but nothing. To her, I was just a nuisance. Just another whim of the rich kid. She looked at me with pity, sometimes with annoyance. And I begged, like a damn idiot, that she'd see me differently... just once.

But his heart… already had an owner. And the idiot was my best friend: Georg.

That night, it was eleven o'clock. I was walking aimlessly through the park near her house, as if simply being near her could calm the chaos inside me. Until I saw her walk by. She walked past, and without thinking, I took her arm.

He was startled to see me there, but agreed to talk to me.

"Where were you going so late?" I asked in a low voice, pretending I didn't care.

"To swim," he shrugged. "Why?"

"I see you must win," I said without thinking.

"We have no choice," he replied. That word stuck with me.

"Do we have one?" I repeated bitterly, turning my face to look at her. I felt the lump in my throat rise. "Why did it have to be him?" I murmured. She didn't look at me. And that hurt more. "If it wasn't Georg..."

"Tom..." she whispered my name, as if it hurt to say it.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I grabbed her shoulder and pulled her toward me, with strength, with rage, with suppressed desperation. I held her as if letting go would mean my life would end. And maybe it was true.

"It's not too late yet," I said, my voice breaking, my heart in my throat. "Just say it... Say you liked it. Just say it."
