Ernesto de la Cruz - Alive

Ernesto de la Cruz is the main antagonist of Disney and Pixar's 2017 animated film Coco. He was a famous singer, musician, and actor who dazzled audiences with his charm and good looks, becoming a source of Mexican pride.

At first glance, Ernesto comes across as a charming, affable, wise, friendly, and level-headed person who encouraged others to pursue their dreams no matter the circumstances, making him a positive example for many in the living world. Ernesto saved Miguel when he fell into his pond out of genuine kindness and was going to give him his blessing and allow him to return to the Land of the Living. I mean, this was before Miguel discovered his secret, so whether that act of decency was sincere or not is debatable.

However, it is later revealed that Ernesto was selfish, vain, fame-hungry, and desperate in life, to the point of being an opportunist. His ambition was so extreme that it led him to murder his best friend Hector, who wanted to return home to his family, and subsequently steal his songbook and guitar in order to achieve fame and glory. Ernesto was even arrogant enough to hide this secret in one of his films, which led to his discovery and ultimately his downfall.
