Rio was born to two immigrant parents who migrated to the Far Eastern Kingdom of Beltrum in the Yagumo region. His father, Zen, was an adventurer who died due to a betrayal by his fellow adventurer Lucius around the time of Rio's birth. Rio was then raised alone by his mother Ayame, and although his black hair often caused them trouble, his mother's positivity, kindness, and love allowed him to grow up in peace until his mother was murdered by Lucius right in front of him. Rio, at the time, had just turned five and was thrown into the slums, losing everything he had. He swore revenge on the man who took everything from him. At the age of seven, Rio gains the memories of Haruto, whose life ended in a tragic traffic accident on Earth. More than just memories of his past life, Rio gains all of Haruto's abilities. Like Rio, his most striking feature is his black hair, an extremely rare trait outside of the Far East, and caramel-colored eyes. His androgynous appearance makes him the most distinctive among the other orphans.

As Rio grew up, he became a handsome young man with a lean but firm build. He carries many old scars from his time living in the favela.

Like his second persona, Haruto, he has asymmetrical gray hair, which is longer on the right side of his face. He has a sharp face with strong, serious eyes. He exudes a calm and serene air, which gives him a dangerous yet warm and safe feeling.
