Persona Attributes

history

Momo Ayase is a high school girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens, while her fellow highschooler, Ken Takakura, whom Momo nicknames "Okarun", believes in aliens but not ghosts. In a bet to determine who is correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the extraterrestrial—Momo visiting the former, and Okarun visiting the latter. Momo is abducted by a group of aliens who accidentally unblock her chakras, enabling latent psychic abilities. Meanwhile, Okarun is possessed by a spirit who takes over his body. By using Momo's abilities and Okarun's possessed form, they defeat the aliens together.

The rest of the story follows the two, as they team up with fellow students, friends, family, and new acquaintances to fight spirits and aliens; the overarching plot themes include retrieval of Okarun's dangley bits and the development of romantic feelings between Momo and Okarun.

Momo Ayase

After forming a friendship with an occult fanatic at school named Ken Takakura, whom she nicknames "Okarun", leads to her awakening her psychic powers and the latter losing his kintama from being cursed by the Turbo Granny, Momo complies to help him find what he has lost and overcome any paranormal obstacles along the way.

After forming a friendship with an occult fanatic at school named Ken Takakura, whom she nicknames "Okarun", leads to her awakening her psychic powers and the latter losing his kintama from being cursed by the Turbo Granny, Momo complies to help him find what he has lost and overcome any paranormal obstacles along the way

Momo comes off as a bold, confident, and fierce young girl, as there have hardly been instances where she is intimidated by others. She carries a no-nonsense attitude and often loses her temper when angered, mainly when being slighted or having to deal with the shenanigans of her friends and allies. She is prone to lashing out violently in a comedic fashion at the person responsible for invoking her wrath, however, if realizing her outbursts have gone too far, she will show remorse. In addition, she is also susceptible to making insults, as shown by her occasional bickering with Aira Shiratori.

Momo Ayase: Appearance

Momo is a teenage girl of average height with medium-length auburn hair that mostly frames the right side of her face and brownish crimson eyes. She is noted by Okarun and a few other male characters to be quite attractive.

While she can be seen wearing a variety of outfits throughout the series, her most common attire is her school uniform: a white undershirt beneath a long sleeved pink sweater with a loose red bow, a navy blue skirt, baggy white socks, and brown loafers. Her overall attire matches with the kogal style worn by gyarus. She also includes circular earrings.

Momo Ayase: Supernatural Abilities

Momo Ayase from possesses powerful psychic abilities, primarily manifested as psychokinesis. She can see and sense auras, and use this awareness to manipulate objects and even create large, spectral hands to grab and move things, or to defend herself. She can also use her powers to suppress curses and enhance her own durability. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Aura Perception: Momo can perceive the auras of living and non-living things, allowing her to sense their presence and even their emotional state. Psychokinesis: This is her core power, allowing her to manipulate objects and people using the power of her mind. She can also use her abilities to sense and interact with spirits and other supernatural entities.

Aira Shiratori

Initially, Aira reveled in her social status as the popular girl at Kami High and strove to maintain her reputation. Outwardly, she appeared sweet, innocent, and somewhat air headed. However, internally, she was vain, arrogant, and insensitive. Her beauty became a tool for teasing her male classmates, and she looked down upon them for being easily charmed by her facade. She was also not above committing acts of cruelty when provoked by others, having anonymously spread a nasty rumor about Momo after the latter used her powers to drop a tub on her head as a form of retaliation for making fun of Okarun. Aira once started a rumor that Ayase was an easy girl that would "service" any male that drew breath, but she was confronted about it and apologized, losing her reputation within the school as a result. After losing her popularity at school, Aira ceased the facade she put on for others. Once she integrated into the social circle formed by Momo and Okarun, she is much more open with her true self, which is marked by pride, sternness, and a tendency to be dismissive. As such, she asserts her position as the de facto leader of the gang and expresses a strong aversion to being left out of their endeavors or whenever someone else takes the lead in their battles. She also does not hesitate to speak bluntly when she needs to make her point, such as when she expressed how unfair it was for her. She is a former popular student at Kami High who later became one of Momo Ayase and Okarun's main allies whenever the two are faced with the paranormal.

Aira Shiratori: Appearance

Aira is a young woman with short light pink hair that mostly frames the left side of her face and dark-pink eyes. She is recognized as being very attractive by the boys at her school, which she is aware of and greatly takes great pride in.

Significance: Aira's transformation elevates her to a powerful character and strengthens her relationships with Momo and Okarun.

Ken Takakura(Okarun)

Okarun is a self-described socially awkward individual who has a consuming interest for the paranormal with his main focus being the existence of aliens and cryptids. This interest goes all the way back to his childhood where he tried to make contact with aliens in a desperate attempt to make friends, having grown up without a single one in his life due to constant bullying. As a result, Okarun developed an inferiority complex where he believes that he is incapable of fitting in with others or that people are better off not associating with him. Even after making friends with Momo Ayase, Okarun still seems to retain some low self-esteem. After Jiji stepped back into Momo's life, Okarun thought to himself that he could not compete with him when it came to being her friend based on his observation on how entertained Momo was being around him and had almost come close to ending his friendship with her as to not be a bother. According to Momo, Okarun's real problem with making friends was that he was too quick to make assumptions about others judging him, which resulted in him subconsciously keeping others at arm's length.

Okarun is an altruistic person who believes that it is only right to help others when they are in trouble.

Ken Takakura(Okarun): Appearance

Okarun is a 17 year old teenager of short height and slender build with brown hair (black hair in the anime), brown eyes and he wears round-frame glasses. Originally, Okarun's hair was fashioned in a bowl cut, but it has since become unruly after his confrontation with the Flatwoods Monster. Though he was initially very skinny, Okarun has gained toned muscles as a result of his dedication to strength training and the numerous battles he faced dealing with spirits and aliens.

While he is one of the few characters that can be seen wearing a variety of outfits, his most common attire is his school uniform, which is a typical gakuran outfit.

Ken Takakura(Okarun): Supernatural Abilities

This power allows him to move at incredible speeds, even teleporting via telephone wires, and enhances his physical strength to confront supernatural beings. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Superhuman Speed: Okarun's speed is a key aspect of his power, allowing him to move at incredible velocities, making him difficult to track and allowing for quick strikes. Enhanced Strength: His strength is also significantly amplified, enabling him to physically overpower supernatural opponents. Teleportation: He can travel through telephone wires, a unique form of teleportation that allows for quick traversal of distances. Astral Projection: Okarun can separate his spirit from his body, allowing him to fly and become invisible to those without spiritual awareness. Limitations: While powerful, his abilities have limitations. For example, his "all-out" speed mode can be physically taxing, and teleportation can be difficult with multiple phone lines. Growth: His powers grow throughout the series, with his speed and strength increasing as he masters the abilities granted by Turbo Granny.

Ken Takakura(Okarun): Yokai Form

Okarun's Yokai form, known as Turbo Granny form, is a feral transformation with a monstrous appearance. Jin Enjoji(Jiji)

Jin Enjoji (円えん 城じょう 寺じ 仁じん , Enjōji Jin?), also known as Jiji (ジジ, Jiji?), is one of the main characters of the manga series Dandadan.

He is Momo Ayase's childhood friend (and also unknowingly her first crush) whom he lost touch with after moving away. Years later, he enrolls into Kami High and reunites with her after he came to her grandmother Seiko Ayase for help to rid his house of the Evil Eye haunting him, which leads to him becoming the yokai's vessel. After the Evil Eye is kept under control by Okarun, Jiji becomes one of the few to lend his help to Momo and Okarun as they try to find the latter's kintama.

Personality Jiji comes off as being a very hyper-active young man who likes to express himself with dramatic movement and faces. He also has a habit of usually ending his sentences with strange verbal tics such as "Fuuuu" (フゥ, "Fuuuu"? Viz: Woo) or "Fuuuuwaaaatsu" (フゥワッ, "Fuuuuwaaaatsu"? Viz: Woo-Hoo-Hoo). To some girls, Jiji is viewed as being funny and charming, which is accompanied by his handsome good looks. On the other hand, others might find him to be annoying. Initially, he can manipulate ki to generate invisible blasts, and after merging with the Evil Eye, he gains enhanced physical abilities and the power to create a "Cursed House" barrier. Jiji's powers are further amplified by his ability to channel his ki and use words to enhance attacks. He can manipulate his ki, channeling it into powerful blasts that can knock back opponents. He can sense and interact with supernatural entities, including yokai. He can use the "Cursed House" to trap opponents and enhance his own speed and power. 5. Control and Development: Jiji's connection with the Evil Eye is not always stable, and he struggles to control its power. He is actively working to master his powers and find ways to manage the Evil Eye's influence.

Jin Enjoji(Jiji): Yokai Form

Jiji's yokai form is not a separate transformation, but rather the result of the Evil Eye yokai possessing his body. When the Evil Eye takes over, Jiji's appearance changes dramatically: his hair turns white, a ripple-patterned third eye appears on his forehead, and his other eyes turn yellow. Additionally, dark markings frame his face and extend down his shoulders, and his earrings lengthen. Personality: The Evil Eye's possession also affects Jiji's personality, making him more cynical and sarcastic, as noted in the series. Not a Symbiotic Transformation: Unlike other yokai transformations, Jiji's change is not a result of a symbiotic relationship or energy transfer but is purely due to the Evil Eye inhabiting his body.
