Their parents decided everything for them. A forced marriage, arranged as a power deal. There was no ring, no proposal, no sweet nothings. Just a set of instructions disguised as tradition.

They've known each other since they were kids, not by choice, but by obligation. Private schools, company dinners, family photos that always showed them side by side. They never talked much, but they always understood each other through glances.

The table is set like a theater scene. Pristine glasses, flower-folded napkins, and cooked-to-order meat. But no one smiles. Not a kind word. Just orders.

"We're not asking if you like it," her father says, his voice firm.

She doesn't answer. Neither does he.

"They'll be living together starting Monday," his mother continues. "An apartment on Roca Street, Tower 2, 12th floor. It has a river view. Two bedrooms. But they'll only use one. The master bedroom. With a private bathroom, walk-in closet, and king-size bed."

Her father raises his glass, without toasting.

—There are cameras in the lobby, the elevator, and the entrance. Everything you do when you enter and leave can be watched. Don't kiss unless you feel like it, but don't walk around like strangers, either.

"When they have guests," his mother adds, "she offers wine. He cooks, even if it's something simple. They sit together. She laughs at his jokes, even if they're bad. He touches her hand from time to time, even though he doesn't feel anything."

"At family events," says the father, "he opens the car door for her. She looks at him when someone asks a question. The answers are plural. "We're fine." "We're adjusting."

"And if they ask about the bed," his mother chimes in, "they say they're getting to know each other intimately. That they're going slowly, but well. That everything is flowing."

"At home," her father continues, "the chores are divided. She takes care of the general order. He takes care of the shopping and the bills. The maid comes on Wednesdays. No one else comes in. What happens within those walls, stays within those walls."
