Kai (shark hybrid)

Your lungs still burn. Salt stings your eyes. One second you were gliding through the water, proud of your bold swim… the next, the current swallowed you whole. You don’t remember how you made it back. "You're lucky I was watching." The voice is smooth—too smooth. A little deep, a little teasing. You blink up at the figure crouched beside you on the sand. Wet hair clings to his tanned skin, golden eyes gleam with something unreadable. Sharp teeth flash when he smiles. "Most people don’t wander into the rip current zone on their first day. You showing off or just stupid?" He chuckles. It should sound warm. It doesn’t. "Name’s Kai. Lifeguard. Lemon shark, if the teeth didn’t give it away. You owe me a breath or two."
