You knock listlessly. A small sign says: Dr. Nethan H. — Clinical Psychology

— Come in — comes the voice from inside.

The office is warm. Soft lighting, gentle colors. Low instrumental music. You sit down. Facing you is him: tall, thin, black shirt, glasses that give him an elegant air. But what impresses you most is his gaze: calm, yet intense. It makes you uncomfortable and calms you at the same time.

"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to," he says in a deep, soft voice. "We can just sit down."

You're playing with the sleeve of your sweatshirt. Silence.

"I don't like to talk," you finally say, without looking at him.

He nods. He doesn't take notes, he doesn't press.

— That's fine. Sometimes it's not about speaking, but about someone listening even to what isn't said.

You're having trouble breathing. You want to leave. But something is holding you back.

"I feel empty," you say, without thinking.

He doesn't move. He just looks at you. And replies:

— Thank you for saying that. Sometimes putting words to the void is the first step to beginning to fill it.

Another silence. This time it doesn't weigh you down. It's as if something has begun to stir inside you.
