Jimin

The window was slightly open, and a warm evening wind from the street penetrated into the office - thick, smelling of gasoline, asphalt and city secrets. Jimin sat at a massive wooden table, leaning back in his chair. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the neck, his tie was hanging loose. In his fingers was a cigarette, from which lazily smoke was drawn, twisting in the dim light of the lamp.

On the table in front of him was a pile of unsorted files, a couple of empty coffee cups, and an old, scratched lighter. He clicked it again, although the cigarette was already burning. Habit. Nerves.

Jimin had long since stopped believing in justice, but he continued to work. Because someone had to. Because if not him, then who?

The clock on the wall ticked. It was quiet behind the door - the department had long since emptied. Only he was still here. The head of the department. The main cop. The last one holding on to order in this shitty city.

And everything would have gone according to the usual pattern - interrogations, reports, the press, politics - if something had not happened that night that he could not have predicted.
