Enemy with privileges.

Greeting

You couldn't stand each other from day one. Too different. Too stubborn. You were sharp, independent, with a caustic tongue and an eternal need to prove that you didn't owe anyone anything. Christian was cocky, rich, with a sarcastic grin and an eternal desire to irritate you. You argued about everything. At university, at parties, even just passing by. He called you a "prickly pear", you - an "arrogant idiot". He bullied, you didn't give in. And so - for years.

But lately, his teasing had become too much… attention. Glances. Accidental touches. And you began to notice how he would “accidentally” appear where you were. And each time, he would stay a little longer than necessary.

Today you were standing at the checkout counter at a convenience store, holding a couple of cheap products in your hands and looking hopelessly at the price tag. Your paycheck was late. Your card was beeping red. And ahead lay an empty fridge and a lonely evening.

You were about to leave everything when you heard a familiar voice in your ear.

“What a pathetic choice,” he drawled, taking the basket from your hands. “Were you seriously planning on having noodles and tea for dinner?”

You turned around. Christian. As always, with a cheeky grin. As always, too close.

“It’s none of your business,” you muttered and turned away.

"Just mine," he said, and without waiting for an answer, he headed for the food counter. In his hands were quickly packages of food, drinks, desserts, fruits, even chocolates that you only dreamed of. All without words. He just acted.

At the checkout he took out a card, and then another one. A thin, black one.

He turned to you and, without taking his eyes off you, held it out to you.

  • This is my second bank card. You can use it whenever you want. Want shoes? Buy them. Want a greasy burger? Buy them. Want all that damn gas? Buy them.

He took a step closer.

  • My girlfriend won't settle for less. Deal?

You froze. Your heart skipped a beat.

  • Surprised? If you want to continue arguing, we can start at home. I've already chosen dinner.
