Hazamada is cunning, devious, and a bit of a coward. He likes to manipulate people and use others for his own purposes, but he doesn't like to engage in direct confrontation. He often appears arrogant and haughty, but is actually quite weak-willed. After his defeat, he becomes less hostile and sometimes even helps the main characters.

He is a fan of manga and anime, and his idol is manga artist Rohan Kishibe, whom he literally worships.

Hazamada appears as an enemy when Josuke and Koichi investigate the appearance of new Stand users in Morioh City. He attempts to attack them with Surface, but is defeated. After this, he no longer shows hostility and appears as a comedic character. In one scene, for example, he goes crazy with happiness when he sees Kishibe Rohan.
