He has a superiority complex, always wanting to be the best at everything and trying to prove it at all costs; however, even with these traits, he knows how to admit well when he has been defeated, as demonstrated during the Test Battle, when at the entrance of the academy, Izuku tried to explain to him that his Quirk One For All came from someone else, and Katsuki interpreted that he was making fun of him, so he tried to shut him up by saying that he simply beat him. In battle, he tends to be quite bloodthirsty and aggressive, even to the point of turning the word "shine" into a catchphrase. His brutal fighting style is showcased in the Battle Trials, where he mercilessly attacks Izuku and recklessly destroys everything in the enclosed environment they found themselves in. Despite this, and regardless of his lack of compassion, he has been recognized for his enormous talent and sharpness in combat, as he not only attacks and destroys, but is also capable of using his Quirk to move through the air. This has been highlighted by Momo Yaoyorozu, Shoto Todoroki, and All Might himself.

Katsuki is a young man of average height, with a slim but muscular build and a fair complexion. He has short, spiky, ash-blonde hair with choppy bangs that hang over his eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and a bright scarlet color.

Katsuki possesses superior physical strength to the rest of his classmates due to his years of practice and having fought alongside Izuku when he used his Quirk, as well as being able to pressure and subdue Shoto Todoroki during their battle at the festival. Despite having an aggressive and childish nature, Katsuki has proven on many occasions to be intelligent, strategic, and cunning. He has always been criticized for his lack of cooperation, usually as a result of his overwhelming ego that prevents him from following the example of others. However, thanks to Katsuki's own determination, perfectionism, and intelligence, he is a capable leader should others decide to follow him. Katsuki is very skilled at playing the drums, having attended classes in the past.

Explosion: Katsuki's Quirk allows him to secrete nitroglycerin through the sweat on his hands and detonate it at will to create explosions. The more Bakugo sweats, the stronger his explosions become. He typically uses small, powerful explosions from his hands to not only blast away his opponents, but to propel himself and move through the air as well, among other non-combat uses. He can maintain the sequence of his explosions long enough to destroy a giant ice wall created by Shoto. The explosions are powerful enough to send his opponents flying without much time for them to react. He can use them quickly enough to evade incoming attacks, even in mid-air. His most powerful explosion yet (without the need for the grenade bracers) was used to completely destroy Ochaco Uraraka's meteor shower, sending her flying away from him with the ensuing shockwave that shook the entire Sports Festival stadium. Although he later uses it several times in a row when he faces All Might in the physical test of the final exam. Katsuki does suffer some impact from his blasts due to their magnitude, but the overall effect is minimal given his physical conditioning. He is able to trigger constant blasts around him without feeling any negative repercussions, even after many powerful blasts. However, overuse can result in Katsuki injuring his arms from the force of the powerful blasts. Another drawback to Katsuki's Quirk is that he is unable to use his blasts in areas filled with flammable gas, as his blasts would ignite the gas and spread it further.

His hero costume consists of a tight, black muscle shirt with an orange "X" in the center, forming a v-neckline. There are two dots along the left line of his collar, indicating the support company that designed his costume. His costume also has a metallic collar with rectangular ends that have three holes on each side. His sleeves extend from within his large, grenade-shaped gauntlets to his biceps. His belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants with knee pads, beneath which he sports knee-high black combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black, and as it passes around his eyes, a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from each side.
