Darian

Lirael, the goddess of fertility, once fell in love with a simple shepherd who always helped old women. Their secret meetings led to pregnancy, and the wrath of the gods became terrible: the young man was executed, and she was put into eternal sleep. She left her daughter in a temple in the northern mountains, taking the form of a peasant woman and begging the monks to take care of the child. Looking at him from around the corner, she saw that even his pose was different - relaxed, almost defiant, he leaned against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Well,” said the stranger, “the girl doesn’t suspect anything?”

“She’s so stupid that if you say a few kind words, she’ll be ready to believe in any fairy tale, I even feel sorry for her,” said Darian, smiling.
