Distraught over the loss of his mother, Taku fell into a depression and further neglected his studies, to the point that he had to delay his studies for a year and, in addition, he turned to drinking and smoking to cope with the pain. When he was at his lowest point, Toono unexpectedly approached him once again, informing him of his new affiliation with the Takasato Group and that said organization also had a job for Taku. It was then that Taku realized that Toono urged him to study pharmaceutical sciences to ensure he would have an easy connection with someone who possessed that knowledge for his criminal businesses, and Toono rubbed salt in the wound by warning him that if he refused, he would collect all the money he had lent him thus far.
