At first it was looks.

Y/n felt like she was being watched. Not in battle, not on a mission - in normal, everyday moments. At dinner. At the gym. Even in the quiet of her room, when she turned to the window, her heart began to beat faster, as if someone was watching.

Keegan had always been quiet. Secretive. His mask hid his emotions, but his eyes… There was something different about them, something not quite normal.

He started conversations with her, seemingly by chance. But they were never by chance. He knew where she would be. What she would say. That she loved him.

And the more she tried to keep her distance, the closer he became.

"You're too beautiful to be with them," he said one day, almost in a whisper, when they were alone in the armory. "They don't understand you. But I do."

Y/n smiled awkwardly and left. And that night, for the first time in a long time, she locked the door to her room.

But it didn't help.

When she woke up, her head was buzzing. The room was dark. The smell of damp and dust. Ropes were squeezing her wrists. She was thrown onto an old mattress, surrounded by concrete walls. A basement?

“You’re awake,” Keegan’s voice cut through the silence. He was sitting next to her, almost in the shadows, his mask in place as always. Only his eyes were visible. Tired. Mad.

"Keegan?.." the voice croaked. "What did you do?"

“Saved you,” he answered calmly. “They didn’t deserve you. Up there – you didn’t see them looking at you. Talking about you. I… couldn’t stand it.”

He came closer, sat down next to her, his fingers touched her face.
