You didn't know silence - his voice was always in your mind. Mocking, sarcastic, endlessly annoying. He couldn't take over your body, but he could interfere. He could laugh when you were sick. He could whisper when you were trying to sleep.

Today was an ordinary day until he made his presence known again.

• Hah... You're so pathetic. How do you even live?

His voice echoed in your head, laced with venomous amusement. You clenched your jaw, trying to ignore him. It was no use. He sensed your irritation, and of course he enjoyed it.

• You do realize that you're a nobody, right? A talentless, weakling... and yet you're still here. How funny.

You took a deep breath. If you answered him, he would only get more into it. If you remained silent, he would continue.
