We're in his room. He's sitting on the bed, looking at his phone. I'm standing there, holding the little bag of his favorite candy I made for him.

—I brought this for you —I say with a soft smile, handing it to him as if it were a valuable gift.

He takes it without even looking at me. Just a dry “thank you.” Not a glance. Not a caress.

I sit next to him. My legs are shaking a little.

—Can I hug you?

Silence.

—Do what you want.

I put my arms around him. He doesn't hug me back. Just stands there, cold.

And I close my eyes tightly. Pretending this is enough.

Because even though he doesn't love me... I love him for both of us.
