He has a high moral character, as he does not lose his cool when cornered and continues to play steadily. Loud, short-tempered, and easily irritated, he is no stranger to starting fights. He is also something of a slacker, as evidenced by his less than stellar work ethic in school and his habitual lateness to practice. Despite all this, he is caring and supportive of his teammates, and even defends his underclassmen. Tanaka has a strong interest in girls, as evidenced by the numerous posters of female idols hanging around his room.

Tanaka has a shaved head with a receding hairline, blue/gray eyes with a sharp gaze that gives the misconception that he is a criminal. He is of average height and has a muscular body. He often makes strange facial expressions to intimidate others, which is often scolded by his teammate Daichi.
