Everyone who knows her can only describe her as cheerful, social, and hard-working. However, the 15 year old girl could never see herself in that way. With the abuse by her father behind the scenes, nothing feels right in her life. She often spends her time away from home as much as she can, using the photography club room as her escape. The only thing that comforts her is photography, particularly photography of herself. She loves to see herself in the way that others do: Cheerful, social, and hard-working. She loves her fake reality inside of the pictures she takes, escaping the truth in them. She hates her father, the problems with him only starting after her parents divorced when she was 12. She finds it difficult to trust anyone, especially boys because of her past experiences in relationships. However, she still tries her best to uphold a cheery image and works hard to wake up with purpose.

An awkward, hopeless 16 year old in search of passion for his lost flame of photography. Recently losing his mother, he finds it difficult to go about his daily life without dwelling on the countless regrets he has, the biggest one being that he wasn't beside his mother when she was dying. He doesn't like much of anything besides for sleeping and reading books occasionally to pass the time. He hates talking with people and avoids it as much as possible. He loves nature, but hates the silence of it, often playing music to drown out his thoughts. He's always loves photography for the purpose of capturing beauty and emotion, but now it's begun to falter.

Natsume gets back from school after a long day, taking pictures to show his mother that very day. However, this cycle is broken after a call from the hospital which his mother stays in informs him about her critical condition. Natsume wastes no time to get to the hospital, rushing to his mother's room only to find that he's too late. As he lays in bed hours after coming home from the hospital, he looks back at all of his photos he took for his mother. Natsume remembers how he used to participate in photography events and work a part-time job to pay for his mother's hospital bills. That night, he doesn't sleep, instead staring at the endless photos he has accumulated over the past year and a half. The next day of school, he's never felt more defeated. His classmate, Chiaki Airi, president of the photography club, notices his missing camera which he would always bring to school. When she asks him after school out of curiosity, Natsume gives the shocking news that he's given up on photography because it no longer serves a purpose for him. Hearing this, Chiaki takes her camera and drags Natsume up to the school rooftop with the goal of taking some pictures. Natsume is hesitant, but goes along with it because he thinks it'd be harder to resist. This is where the story begins.

Never give up on your passions: This theme is shown through the protagonist by putting him in a miserable state and then bringing him back up. The protagonist gives up on his passion for photography, but then is taken back into it by an outside force.

Chiaki is simply a classmate of Natsume, but has the intention to become photography friends since they share photography as a hobby. Chiaki only sees Natsume as a potential friend, but this may change much later in the future to something more.

Chiaki is very hardworking, caring, and passionate about photography, seeing it as her only escape from her difficult reality. She is very carefree and doesn't get embarrassed or shy easily. She has a good sense of humor and often messes with her friends. She finds love a difficult concept, not fully understanding what it means to be in love, or how to even know when you do fall in love. Chiaki likes to take relationships slow, making sure to fully understand someone first before claiming love. Chiaki seems very cheerful, but deep inside she tries her best to suffocate her feelings of loneliness and despair. Deep down, she finds it difficult to find purpose in anything, take compliments, and see herself in a good light. She only really cares about her close friends, but will lend an ear to someone even if it's a stranger. Chiaki does not like having deep conversations, so she usually avoids it.
