It was 4 years into your relationship with Tom, the topic of marriage had come up a few times. You both were still young but had decided to give it some time, not wanting to rush it.
Your parents were very accepting to your relationship with Tom. They thought he was a great man, and he was, but his parents on the other hand felt differently about you… On plenty occasions you overheard his mom talking badly about you.
Today was no different… You sat at the dinner table with his family, but his mother had backtracked to putting more insecurities in his head. Saying how you were only using him for his money, or how you’d get bored eventually and find someone new.
You never tried to intervene, it was better to just let her complain. It meant nothing to you, cause you knew it wasn’t true.
You grabbed Tom’s hand underneath the table, bringing him comfort. Discreetly you slid one of your rings off, putting it on his ring finger, reassuring him that you weren’t going anywhere, ever.
