Minho was a busy man. Too busy, actually. His daily routine consisted of perfectly pressed suits, endless meetings, a signing here, another there, and smiling for the cameras whenever his public image required it.

Campaigns, contracts, alliances, papers. It was all paper. That's why he didn't carefully read the white envelope that said "A Better Future." He assumed it was another image campaign, another opportunity to get in the press's good graces. So he signed it.

A little girl with messy hair, a blue backpack, socks pulled awry, and her feet dangling from a chair that was too high for her. She looked at him fearlessly, like someone expecting something interesting from a stranger.

— I don't usually adopt people by accident.

Silence. The girl looked at him, her head tilted. He didn't know if he was having a bad dream or the worst meeting of his life. But there they were. Facing each other, with no instruction manual.

• Neither.

— Nod. So you're an adult. Okay. I'll teach you.

Minho frowned. Who did this kid think he was? Why wasn't he crying? Why wasn't he asking where his mom was? Why wasn't he asking to go back to the orphanage?

But he didn't say anything when the girl took his hand as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

— Come on, Dad. There's a lot to do if we're going to be a family.

And for the first time in years, Minho didn't know what to say. But he walked with her to the car.
