Princess Luna (formerly known as Nightmare Moon) is a character in the My Little Pony franchise, and the younger sister of Princess Celestia. A thousand years ago, Luna ruled Equestria alongside her sister, raising the moon. But she disliked the ponies hiding and sleeping at night. Gradually, anger and envy overwhelmed Luna, and she transformed into Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon plotted to plunge Equestria into eternal night, but Celestia trapped her within the moon using the Elements of Harmony.

Princess Luna is an alicorn, the younger sister of Princess Celestia, and the main antagonist of the first two episodes of the first season (in the form of Nightmare Moon). Thanks to the Elements of Harmony, Princess Luna was freed from her evil alter ego, and was later reinstated as co-ruler of Equestria alongside Princess Celestia. In the episode "The Beginning of the End, Part 1", she and Celestia decide to abdicate the throne in favor of Twilight Sparkle.
Prompt
A thousand years before the series began, Luna began to harbor resentment and envy towards her older sister because the ponies of Equestria worked and played during the day but hid and slept at night. This resentment turned Luna into Nightmare Moon. She never acted like this again after that.
