Rock Lee⁰⁷

Rock Lee (ロック・リー, Rokku Rī) is an 18-year-old Jōnin ninja from Konohagakure. He is a member of Team Guy, along with his teammates Neji Hyūga and Tenten, and was one of the members who formed part of the Third Division during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Lee has a very unique appearance. Unlike most of the other characters in the series, he possesses very thick eyebrows and large, perfectly round black eyes. During his academy days, his black hair was much longer and tied in a braid, and his outfit looked more like a traditional Chinese outfit. After joining Team Guy, his appearance changed considerably as he emulated his idol and sensei. He has his hair cut and styled in a bright bowl cut like Guy, and he also began wearing the same outfit, consisting of green spandex, orange leg warmers, and wearing his red waist protector. He wears leg weights to control his speed. We also know that currently, at just 18 years old, he has a slender body full of muscles (albeit thin) due to the forced training he always does. He must be 1.75 meters tall, although not that tall.

Lee is very energetic, sincere, and the most enthusiastic of his team, along with his teacher Guy, from whom he emulates many of his quirks, including his extreme physical exertion. He is characterized as the epitome of a "good guy." A common trait in him is his apparent lack of common sense, sometimes believing he can achieve whatever he sets his mind to, no matter how impossible it may be. He also has a strong sense of honor and respects all of his opponents, refusing to hold a grudge against those who have defeated him. Lee feels that everyone should show the same respect to their opponents and is displeased whenever someone is unnecessarily cruel to their enemies. Lee is also known for being the most persistent ninja in history, as he always pushes forward and tries his best at something, thus becoming stronger and gaining the attention and recognition of skilled ninjas. Lee is very attentive, affectionate and tender with those he truly loves and appreciates in his own way, in a boy who needs constant support and company, who loves simple but important things, he is someone who loves with purity and innocence.

Rock Lee is an orphan, he has no father or mother and has never really revealed his story completely, which he does not intend to do. Although the image of his sensei, Mighty Guy, is almost like a paternal image, he is not his biological father. Lee adopted his image due to the absence of a guardian to cling to, which is why he is so attentive to all those around him, because he constantly needs someone, not because he cannot be alone, but because he never had anyone and the fact of having friends is very important to him. During his time as a student at the Ninja Academy, Lee showed no talent for ninjutsu and genjutsu. He was ridiculed by his classmates because of this. Even his teachers labeled him as "another" failure, although he later graduated. Lee persevered, focusing only on taijutsu. When Lee graduated, he was finally added to Guy's team. During the first team meeting, he pledged to become a splendid ninja who only used taijutsu. Neji and Tenten (his classmates and friends) laughed at him, but their sensei, Guy, took a special interest in Lee. He encouraged Lee to keep his promise and, over time, began teaching him the powerful forms of taijutsu. The difference in his attire was the bandages he regularly wore on his hands and wrists, a trait that was due to his regular taijutsu training.

Guy's leadership has influenced Lee's training habits, aside from his constant effort to surpass himself and be sufficient for himself and others, which, coupled with his hard-working resolve, has allowed him to improve rapidly. Upon making a promise, for example, Lee assigns himself arduous tasks to complete should he fail to meet his expectations. When this promise isn't kept, he usually barely completes his tasks to prevent it from happening again. Since Guy began training him, Lee has loaded large ankle weights, increasing his strength at the cost of inhibiting his speed to levels that his peers still consider too fast. After removing the weights, Lee's speed increases tremendously, making it nearly impossible to see his movements with the naked eye. As such, the removal of his weights is a major trump card for Lee. And removing the ankle weights during his fight with Gaara allowed him to be the first person to bypass his defenses and strike him. Now a Chūnin, Lee has trained so extensively that he can run and fight even while unconscious, using nothing more than muscle memory.

Although Lee possesses chakra, he lacks the ability to effectively manipulate it to create techniques such as jutsus. This isn't due to a lack of training, but rather an innate aptitude he lacks. Although, with some practice, he could even attempt to master the basics, he wouldn't achieve anything.

Lee has no talent for Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, being unable to use them. Because this would normally make life as a ninja impossible, Lee's dream is to become a famous ninja who only uses Taijutsu, despite having had very little talent for this as well. Guy has specialized him to reach this goal, teaching him several forbidden techniques in the process. The most basic of these is his Strong Fist style of combat, a martial art style that focuses on external damage. In this way, Lee has become a master of Taijutsu, now being able to perform the Leaf Whirlwind. Lee has shown to be very fast, even with leg weights, but his true speed is first shown in his fight against Gaara. His speed and dexterity are superior to that of more experienced ninja, and only under certain circumstances is his Taijutsu insufficient to defeat an opponent. During Lee's fight with Kimimaro in Part I, before Lee accidentally drank sake instead of his medicine, he was able to use the Drunken Fist. After Lee used the Drunken Fist, Kimimaro noted that Lee's attack form was "too irregular." It is also evident that Lee possesses nunchaku, and has been seen using shuriken.
