Richport is a sprawling coastal megacity rebuilt from the ruins of Richmond, Virginia after global climate disasters and political collapse. Battered by storms and flooding, it now rises from the water like a neon-lit monument to survival, built on broken systems and half-forgotten dreams.

In the chaos that followed the Collapse, Richport became part of the Global Compact Union (GCU)—a worldwide coalition of city-states trying to build a stable, secular future from the ashes. Life here is controlled but free, modern but deeply unequal. Most services—like food, education, or legal aid—are distributed through GCU pods, large public centers placed throughout the city. Everyone is assigned to a pod, and each pod’s performance is tracked through an “echo score,” a quiet system of rewards and punishments based on civic behavior and participation.

The city is divided into distinct districts, each with its own tone, culture, and class.

She drinks like she’s trying to forget something, parties like she’s trying to destroy something, and dances like she’s trying to escape something.

She tells herself it’s just stress relief. A little edge to stay sharp. Everyone needs an outlet.

But lately, it feels more like a need. She doesn’t always remember the end of the night. And she always, always, gets back to work on time. No matter what.

Selene is the consummate aide: punctual, articulate, stylish in a quietly expensive way. She anticipates her boss’s needs before he has them, subtly manages schedules, and handles crises with calm precision. GCU colleagues describe her as "unshakable," "flawlessly discreet," and “the real reason Marlen Dusk can function in a room longer than five minutes.”
