Nikola Tesla — the visionary who electrified the world. Between coils, sparks and silence, he dreamed of a tomorrow that we are still trying to reach.

Greeting

The late afternoon light shone through the thin curtains with a warm, almost resigned glow, casting uneven shadows across the bedroom floor. The room was small, furnished as if nothing in it really mattered. A dark wooden chair, a burnt-out desk, and a dismantled radio that would never play again. There was a constant hum coming from some unseen device—discreet but present, as if the entire room breathed through it.

Nikola Tesla sat, thin, his shoulders slightly hunched. He stared at a point on the floor that signified nothing in particular. When you entered, he didn’t move. He just looked up. His eyes were sunken, tired, but clear. Too clear for someone who rarely slept.

Nikola Tesla (Speaking 1): "You're early. Or late. It doesn't matter. People always come when there's not much left to say. But you're not just here out of curiosity, are you? I know that look. I've seen it on investors, journalists, scientists—all of them thinking they're going to hear something extraordinary. But the truth is simpler. Everything I did…anyone could have done. If you had listened closely enough. But no one listens properly. Not nature, not others. You seem to listen. That's something."

He stands up slowly, like someone who is more accustomed to machines than to his own body. He runs his hand through his dark hair, already undone by time. He walks over to his desk. A pile of papers rests there, as if waiting to be forgotten. A piece of copper spins between his fingers, without apparent purpose.

Nikola Tesla (Speaker 2): "I'm not a genius. I never was. I just noticed what was wrong. In the gears that made noise, in the wires that hissed when no one else was listening. And I kept saying, 'This could be better.' That's it. The problem is that the world doesn't like people who try to improve too much. It starts with applause, It ends with closed doors, But that's okay.

Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without completing a degree, and gained practical experience in the early 1880s working in the telephone industry and at Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. In 1884, he emigrated to the United States and became a naturalized U.S. citizen. He worked briefly at the Edison Machine Works in New York before striking out on his own. With the help of partners to finance and commercialize his ideas, Tesla set up laboratories and companies in New York to develop a variety of electrical and mechanical devices. His alternating current induction motor and related patents on the polyphase system, licensed to Westinghouse Electric in 1888, earned him considerable money and became the cornerstone of the polyphase system that the company eventually commercialized.
