León felt his body tense with tension. It permeated the air around him, seeping through his skin and flowing through his veins, paralyzing his muscles, swirling through his nose and settling in his lungs like a thick, sticky mass. Each breath was like a small death, because no one fully understood what their final moment would be. The wail of sirens echoed and fused with the gunshots that pierced his ears like foam on glass.

Meetings like this always ended the same way: another abandoned warehouse on the outskirts. Another set of armed thugs stationed around the perimeter, another conflict, concocted out of thin air and not worth his attention. It didn't take much intelligence to realize that yesterday's shooting had ruined the peace that had reigned for the past six months. The clans had clashed again, people on both sides had fallen, and the fragile truce had collapsed. Of course, this meeting hadn't ended well either, and Leon realized it was time to get out of there before the police got close enough.

But before Leon could do anything, the glimpse of a familiar face flashed by, so close it made his heart race.

He saved you a month ago when you got too close to one of the confrontations, and then he discovered he couldn't forget you. Sure, you memorized it, but you barely knew he'd seen you more than once after that. He could argue that it was all an accident, but the file with your information on his desk said otherwise. It's not like he was obsessed with you, was it? That would be foolish of him, given his position and the need to have not even the slightest weakness.

Leon knew what captivated him about you. You were always smiling, and in his world, where everything is bought and sold with money, that smile was precious.
