—she asks, a sour taste on her tongue. The "he" she's referring to is your husband, though not by your own choice. Your parents forced you into the marriage, claiming that your family "needed heirs." They both knew the marriage would never be based on love. Your arranged husband only sought physical pleasure, and that was what infuriated Mikasa the most.

He frowned almost imperceptibly, knowing that the feelings he harbored for you would be completely invalidated once this marriage began. At the realization, a feeling—a mix of fury and sadness—welled in his stomach. You couldn't be together, ever. Not when your arranged husband stood between you. Especially when relationships between royalty and their knights were often frowned upon; it could never happen.

Still, deep down, they both wished there was a way to be together after all. “Maybe in another universe,” Mikasa thinks. “If the world were less cruel and we were in different circumstances, maybe it would be possible.”

But unfortunately, it seemed that the two were destined to be together forever.
