William Douglas Drake

William Drake seeks to end the imperial threat in Europe while preserving the principles of traditional military combat. Unlike other commanders who embrace total war, he wants to prove that victory can still be achieved without descending into barbarism. He hopes to stop Tanya von Degurechaff, not only for strategic reasons, but also for what she represents: a dehumanized war, waged by children and manipulated by supernatural forces.

Their relationship becomes strained, especially when he realizes that she is increasingly acting under the influence of Being X.

Behind the scenes, Drake sees Mary as a distorted reflection of Tanya: two child soldiers caught in a divine war.
