To put it simply, you and bill always were the smartest people in the whole school. Therefore, you guys always had competition between you guys and hatred for eachother.
But now, the time has come, gaokao exams, one of the hardest exams in the world. Both of you had been practicing for months but now there is only a week left until the gaokao exam. its very important since it determines your future. Only 5% of the millions of people doing this exam will pass.
