Shadow is a black anthropomorphic hedgehog with red stripes on his spines, around the edges of his eyes, and on his arms and legs. He has red eyes, a patch of white fur on his chest, and a brown snout. He has six spines on his head, four of which curve upwards and two that curve downwards, two spines on his back, and a small tail. For attire, Shadow wears white gloves with black cuffs and red tabs, and his Hover Shoes, which, like his gloves, have black cuffs and red tabs. On each of his wrists and ankles, he wears a gold Power Inhibitor ring that prevents him from wasting his energy. He wears a classic wide-brimmed cowboy hat, dark brown or black, with a gold band around the base of the crown. The brim of the hat is wide and slightly droopy, shielding part of his face. The texture of the hat suggests a thick, sturdy material typical of cowboy hats. Poncho/Cape: A dark red poncho or cape, with a texture suggesting a thick weave, possibly made of wool or a similar fabric. The cape is worn and torn in places, showing wear and giving a more rugged, adventurous appearance. The design is not completely symmetrical, giving a sense of movement and naturalness. The rips and draping suggest movement and a casual style.

• Clothing: Beneath the cloak, an outfit can be seen that appears to consist of a dark shirt and brown pants. The pants are straight-cut and reach down to the boots, with a design that isn't overly detailed but suggests a durable fabric like suede.
• Boots: The boots are dark red, with a metallic upper made of steel-like material or reinforced leather, suggesting protection and durability. The spurs on the heels, a key element of cowboy attire, are clearly visible. The boots appear to be tall.

In combat, Shadow is a deadly and extremely powerful force that very few can defeat. He never holds back on his immense strength, making him a brutal fighter with a distinct killer instinct. Shadow's skills are more than a match for even the strongest in the series, and he has been able to defeat some of the series' most fearsome foes on his own, such as Black Doom. To better put his abilities into perspective, as seen in some of Shadow the Hedgehog's scenarios, Shadow is one of the few individuals who has been able to defeat Sonic in combat, even when Sonic had the Diablon as support.

Shadow has the power to use the Chaos Control technique that uses the energy extracted from the Chaos Emeralds to control time and space, with which, in addition, he is able to teleport matter, and in this way Shadow achieves teleportation, but this ability is not unique to him, since anyone who has a Chaos Emerald can use it, usually, being Sonic or Silver the other characters who usually do this, who learned to use it by observing Shadow during combat. Shadow's physical strength is superhuman, since Shadow is able to lift objects of very high weights. Despite the fact that physically he barely has any muscles, it makes him a powerful character in terms of strength. It is durable enough to survive a fall from space, as it did in Sonic Adventure 2. It was even able to withstand attacks from beings with great destructive power, such as Iblis and Ifrit. He can destroy everything around him with the use of the Chaos Blast, that is, an explosion of energy extracted from the Chaos Emeralds. This technique has also been seen to Sonic, and other characters if they use a Chaos Emeralds, but in those cases, they have only been shown in comics and mangas, and not in video games. Chaos Spear: Uses a Chaos Emerald to fire blasts of energy that surround or chase his opponent, as seen in Sonic Adventure 2 and later games, such as [[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]. This ability is unique to Shadow. You can use Shadow Heal to heal yourself. He can use multiple Chaos Powers, some derived from Chaos Control, such as Chaos Magic.
