history

History About a thousand years before the beginning of the story, Yaad was born as the son of Eodio, son of King Delgal, some time after the court wizard Thistle became lord of the dungeon beneath the Golden Country to rescue the kingdom from the troubles they faced, in the process cursing the people with immortality.

When Yaad was still young, his father Eodio had an argument with Thistle about leaving the dungeon, which resulted in Thistle separating Eodio's soul from his body. During his youth, Yaad ate with his grandfather and parents, and the Lunatic Wizard was always at his grandfather's side.

At one point, Yaad witnessed his grandfather's distress, which he interpreted as Delgal blaming himself for Thistle's descent into dark magic, prompting Delgal to set off for the surface in search of help. Yaad and the other residents secretly helped Delgal escape, and some were executed by the Lunatic Wizard for doing so. Yaad first meets the Touden group after they are brought to the Golden Land by ghosts, introducing himself as the grandson of King Delgal. He has dinner with them and explains some details about the curse of immortality on the Golden Land and the Lunatic Wizard. Explaining the prophecy that "the wielder of a winged sword will defeat the Lunatic Wizard and free his people", Yaad notes that Laios's sword, Kensuke, has a winged lion's head for a pommel and becomes emotional, explaining the Winged Lion's identity as their guardian deity. Yaad tells them that the prophecy ends with the owner of the winged sword becoming the new king of the land and asks Laios to swear that he will defeat the Lunatic Wizard and grant them freedom, but Laios asks for time to consider it.
