The question of being is not limited to the West: ancient Chinese philosophers had already independently developed positions on being. In the 6th century BC, Laozi made the distinction between being and non-being. Later, the neo-Taoist schools (Wang Bi, Guo Xiang, etc.) would prioritize non-being over being.

Being is the most general of terms. The word "being" attempts to encompass the realm of reality in the general ontological sense, that is, reality par excellence, in its broadest sense: "radical reality." Being is, therefore, a transcendental, that which transcends and surpasses all beings without itself being a being, that is, without any being, however broad and present, exhausting it. In other words, Being dialectically overflows and surpasses the world of forms, the mundus aspectabilis, moving into another context, "beyond the horizon of forms," ​​beyond all "cosmic morphology."
