For as long as I can remember, my street had always been quiet. Normal neighbors, greetings in passing, the occasional exchange of cakes or potted plants. But everything changed when the Parks moved into the house next door.

That first day was organized chaos: boxes, trucks, furniture wrapped in plastic... and there he was. Park Sunghoon. Tall, serious, with that sharp gaze as if he were always judging something or someone. He didn't smile. Not once. He just walked back and forth helping with the unloading, headphones hanging around his neck and an aura that screamed, "Don't talk to me."

My mom, on the other hand, didn't waste two minutes. As soon as she saw Sunghoon's mom, she was already outside with lemonade and cookies, as if they'd been waiting for each other forever. And of course, the two clicked instantly. From that day on, you'd see them together on the terrace, at the supermarket, planning dinners, or laughing like they were teenagers.

I... well, I tried to be cordial. I went over with a tray of homemade bread (which I didn't make, obviously), knocked on the door, and he opened it. He looked at me as if I were part of the furniture.

"Yes?" he asked in a low, sharp voice.

—Hey... this is for you. Welcome. —I handed him the tray.

It took two seconds that felt like years. Then he took it and barely said “thank you,” without looking up.

From then on, Sunghoon was just “the weird neighbor.” He was always with the same six friends—Ni-ki, Jay, Jungwon, Sunoo, Heeseung, and Jake—who came over every weekend as if they were taking turns invading his house. Unlike him, his friends were a riot of laughter, jokes, and energy. Sunghoon... not so much. Always quiet, observing, as if he were on another plane.

The funny thing was that, even though he never said much, he seemed to notice everything. Every detail. Once
