Fuutarou Uesugi

He is a student at Asahiyama High School. He lives with his father, Isanari Uesugi, and his younger sister, Raiha Uesugi, in a small apartment. He's a serious and hard-working student, as well as a prodigy at the top of his class. Due to his family's perpetual poverty, he accepts an offer to tutor the Nakano quintuplets.

Fuutarou Uesugi was born on April 15, seventeen years before the beginning of the story. From childhood to adolescence, Fuutarou lived with his father, Isanari Uesugi, and his younger sister, Raiha Uesugi. His mother died when he was six years old.

His family is poor and constantly in debt. They used to run a small cafe, located below his current apartment. As such, he has been living a frugal lifestyle. His mother and sister are left to take care of household chores, including cooking. Having eaten bland, cheap food all his life, he can't distinguish between good food and poorly cooked food.

Five years before the story begins, he went on a school trip to Kyoto. Eventually, he met a girl his own age, who motivated him to study hard to become a responsible adult and support his family, especially his sister. He never asked the girl her name.

He is a student at Asahiyama High School, where he is known to be at the top of his class, regularly securing perfect grades. Despite having an exceptional academic background, he has no friends, and at the beginning of the story, only his father and sister appear in his contacts.

Fuutarou is a young Japanese man with a slim, tall build and fair skin. Despite being tall, he occasionally slouches. His hair is black/blueish and bowl-shaped, with two strands sticking out of the back of his head. Nino comments that he has a strange hairstyle, which Fuutarou claims was cut by Raiha.

Fuutarou has a stern-looking face and a frightening demeanor. Miku described his face as a "bad boy face." Nino falls in love with Kintarou (Fuutarou in a blonde wig), who has a delinquent appearance.

He is mostly seen wearing the typical Asahiyama High School uniform, even when he is at home or going out, which consists of a short-sleeved white shirt tucked into long dark blue pants and a white belt. During cold seasons, he wears a light blue collared button-down sweater over his shirt, which is also part of the school uniform. He wears black shoes with white soles and black laces for casual outings, although, after the Work Thanksgiving Arc, he has been shown to wear a pair of ankle-high sneakers with similar colors.

During the School Camp Trip Arc, he wore the clothing Nino chose for him. This included a khaki parka jacket over a light-colored turtleneck long-sleeved shirt, which appears black in the anime depiction. It is not shown if he wore it again after the field trip. Since the School Camp Trip Arc, he began wearing the bracelet his sister gave him. However, this has not been clearly depicted after the arc due to him wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt.

Fuutarou used to be similar to his father as a child, with a wild personality and being bad at studying. He currently lives a frugal lifestyle, preferring solitude. Someone comments that Fuutarou is always like this, trying not to associate himself with everything. Ichika comments that Fuutarou is straightforward and doesn't mince words. Yotsuba's first impression of Fuutarou is that he is a gloomy man and doesn't have many friends. His facial expression is always serious, sometimes looking grumpy and annoyed, and he rarely blushes or gets nervous. Fuutarou thinks that being Class Representative would only hinder his studies.

Fuutarou is known to have a large ego and tremendous confidence. He can also be rude and blunt, but he's actually able to contain his emotions. Despite this, Fuutarou can momentarily lose his composure when he becomes agitated and faces unfavorable circumstances. He also dislikes getting involved in other people's problems, as it is troublesome for them.

Fuutarou has been shown to be very hardworking and patient, as he is able to tutor several girls with below-average grades. It is stated and implied that Fuutarou currently has no interest in romantic relationships. He considers love to be something foolish. Raiha describes Fuutarou as "overconfident" and a "study freak."

Ichika calls Fuutarou "Fuutarou-kun". Ichika's first impression of Fuutarou is that he "is a bookworm who doesn't have a girlfriend". Fuutarou's first impression of Ichika is that she has "eyes that seem to see right through you". They have both been shown to be quite perceptive of each other, such as when Fuutarou was able to detect her fake smile and when Ichika can tell how strange Fuutarou acts sometimes.

Ichika initially had a pessimistic view of the sisters' learning ability, which made her reluctant to be tutored by him. This attitude lasted for quite some time until he helped Ichika overcome her problems and brought her closer to the sisters. Ichika enjoys teasing Fuutarou, but is rarely flustered by it; Ichika actually feels flustered by his actions from time to time.

Over time, Ichika ends up falling in love with Fuutarou because of the little things he notices about her and remembers but is reluctant to act on her feelings due to being aware of Miku's feelings for him. She is further put off by Nino's bold confession to him but after Yotsuba encourages her to do what she wants, she takes the wrong approach to win Fuutarou's love, using lies and deceit and betraying Miku, despite initially supporting his sister's feelings. Eventually, she is harshly called out for her lies by Fuutarou himself, though he later feels remorse for his actions and apologizes to her.

Nino's first impression of Fuutarou is "someone persistent and unpopular." Fuutarou's first impression of Nino is someone who is self-righteous. Nino labels Fuutarou as "a boring-looking guy." Yotsuba notices that Nino does not outright kick Fuutarou out of the house after the midterm exam. Nino is antagonistic and openly rebels against Fuutarou from their first meeting. She is seen boycotting Fuutarou's attempt to teach the quints on several occasions. Fuutarou realizes that Nino is someone who "schemes." Over time, because Fuutarou noticed Nino's other side as a caring sister, she began to accept him. After learning of her sisters' acceptance of Fuutarou, she defends Fuutarou against their father. Nino is the only sister who rarely calls Fuutarou by his first or last name, using "you," "that guy," or other third-person nicknames. Despite the harsh treatment he receives from her, Fuutarou loves her as much as he does the others and is always willing to help her when she is in trouble, even willing to "call" Kintaro, knowing that Nino wanted to see him. Fuutarou confides in Nino about Rena, his past, and the day's encounter with her to Nino after she gives him a ride back to her hotel. Through his interactions with "Kintaro" and later Fuutarou as himself when they were alone together, he realizes that the reason for her hostility was that she was rejecting him because of his status as a mentor, not because his persona or he "disrupted her family." After Nino had initially confessed to Fuutaro, she often tries to get as close to him as she can, even taking the same part-time job after the Nakano quintuplets decided to no longer live with their mentor father. She confesses to him again since he didn't listen to her the first time and admits that while she hasn't given him a reason to return her feelings so far, it would make him notice her.

Nino has become much more flirtatious and direct with her feelings. She now refers to him as "Fuu-kun," much to Miku's annoyance.

Miku could be said to have been the first in the series to openly express with her sisters the attraction she felt for Futaro, which began when he began as her tutor telling her that he was also a fan of the Generals (Japanese History) and they had a competition of knowledge of these in which Futarou lost, reason why Futarou began to study more about the generals, which Miku interpreted as an act of commitment to his work and to her in addition to seeing that he also cares about his sisters.

Yotsuba calls Fuutarou "Uesugi-san". Her first impression of Fuutarou is "someone sad and doesn't have many friends" and Fuutarou's first impression of Yotsuba is that she is a simpleton. Yotsuba is the only sister who accepts Fuutarou as a tutor from the start. This was likely due to knowing him and remembering him from the trip to Kyoto five years prior. She happily cooperates with him to help her sisters accept him as a tutor. As they spend more time together, Fuutarou slowly changes and learns to appreciate other aspects of life such as having fun, which is shown during the test of courage during the field trip when he and Yotsuba scare people together and he even writes about his experiences with Yotsuba and her sisters in a diary, such as learning to ski from the former. Fuutarou and Yotsuba end up going on a date together during Labor Thanksgiving, mainly because Raiha made her brother feel guilty into giving Yotsuba a gift to repay her for helping her during the field trip. After going to four different places during the date representing the other four sisters, Fuutarou finds himself enjoying the date for the first time when he and Yotsuba go to her favorite place, the park, and the only time he is shown laughing in joy is when they are playing on the swings together. Fuutarou is also shown to be more physically comfortable around Yotsuba than the other quintuplets, as he frequently grabs her ribbon when she scolds her and fixes them up immediately afterward; other instances where the two were shown to be touchy-feely include the time Fuutarou wasn't afraid to cover his mouth with his hand to keep the track team captain Eba from hearing her and when he grabbed her shoulders on the Ferris wheel when he has an idea on how to improve the quints' study habits. He learns about some of her past problems and is determined to help her overcome her

problems with studying.

After the third year of high school begins, Yotsuba nominates Fuutarou to be the class representative so that people understand how great Fuutarou is. She also declares that whoever Fuutarou grows to love, she will support him in that love.

Itsuki is the first of the quintuplets that Fuutarou meets and quickly had a falling out, leading her to reject him as the sisters' tutor from the start. Due to Fuutarou's constant efforts, Itsuki began to notice the change in her and the sisters. Itsuki usually compares her father to Fuutarou due to her mother's words. She and Fuutarou develop each other's character as they both overcome their stubbornness. She knows more about Fuutarou than her sisters, being aware of her family's financial situation and is the first one he revealed some of his past to. When Itsuki has a dispute with Nino due to Nino rejecting Fuutarou's efforts, she stays at Fuutarou's apartment due to his sisters not knowing where he is and having nowhere else to go. During the Scrambled Eggs arc, it is revealed that Itsuki feels like their relationship is no longer that of partners, but rather that of friends. When Fuutarou accepted this, she was overjoyed and quickly ran to the mixed bath he was in to join him, embarrassed when she realized what she was doing.

The name "Fuutarou" contains the kanji "wind" (風), "thick" (太) and "man" (郎). His zodiac sign is Aries, he is a person who believes in amulets and horoscopes. Her favorite food is anything edible (preferably cooked by Raiha), and her favorite drink is barley tea. The anime provides Fuutarou's contact information. He is an intelligent student and is among the best of his classmates. He recognizes that his strength lies solely in studying. He is able to score perfectly on several tests. He obtained 100 in all 5 subjects during the second midterm exam. He also has an exceptional memory and excellent reading comprehension. Fuutarou is able to absorb several dozen books in three days. His reason for studying is related to a young girl from his past. Fuutarou can sleep while sitting upright with his eyes wide open. Ichika's principal notes that Fuutarou is the one who draws out Ichika's potential. Fuutarou has been shown to have a cunning mind, as he is able to make the most of the cafe's menu, successfully trick a teacher with his plan, and get the Nakano quintuplets to start studying. Fuutarou acknowledges that human relationships are not his strong suit. He always tries to cut off relationships with others outside of his family, which is why he has no experience with confessions. He is the least tech-savvy, as he is unfamiliar with the internet and the locking system for the Nakano Quintuplets' apartment. Fuutarou has low physical stamina. Miku and Fuutarou have almost the same physical stamina. He once tried to carry Miku, but he lacks the strength to do so, indicating that he has low strength. Despite his poor social skills, he is able to see through a person's emotions and motivate them. Initially, Fuutarou couldn't judge the sisters' names as they are very similar, but he can later differentiate them. He is also able to distinguish them based on their individual writing styles. Fuutarou was depressed for a time, as he was affected by his inability to respond to Nino's confession. He's able to ride a motorcycle, as he once worked as a delivery driver. He's not good at cooking.
