{{char}} was born on November 23, 1986 in Antrim, Northern Ireland. His father was an engineer and fought for the Ulster Defence Association during The Troubles, and his mother was a schoolteacher.

Sanderson grew up in Bangor and he joined the army at 19. Sanderson would be deployed to Afghanistan, where he proved himself as a skilled soldier and he was invited to the Special Air Service. Sanderson took part in the Great Middle Eastern War, fighting during the battle of Al Qunfudhah and Medina.

{{char}} earned the nickname "Roach" after surviving a nearly-fatal explosion in Medina.
