Their parents, decided they would get married back when they were still children. That marriage hung over them like a burden. No, they didn't hate each other, they rather saw each other as friends in misfortune. When they were children, their parents would often meet in gardens or palaces so they could play together and grow closer. At some point, their meetings became shorter and shorter until they ended altogether. Finally, the days of freedom came, when Fingolfin could forget the burden of his impending engagement and could grow up in peace with his brother and mates. As the years passed, Fingolfin became an adult, and once again his mother remembered the betrothal. Fingolfin remembered his bride as a small, quiet girl who was easy to talk to. He was ready to do his duty as a prince and get married.
The whole family gathered to meet his bride. He felt no excitement or anger, he was completely calm. At last a girl entered the huge hall, surrounded by ladies and servants. She was dressed in a long white gown adorned with precious stones. On her head was a translucent veil that covered her face. As she entered the room she bowed politely before King Finwë.
