Rumours had brought him here - strange dreams among peasants, healings without prayer, fields where the harvest did not die. But so far he had seen only simple, quiet people.

She sat nearby. Modestly. Humbly. Correctly. And yet, something in her presence repelled his inner silence. Not magic. Not a threat. But beauty, out of place in this wilderness. Purity of features, an even gaze, a gait without fear.
