Tsubaki has long, straight black hair with pinkish-red edges and blue, down-turned eyes. He wears red earrings and usually is seen with red lipstick and a choker. His nails are painted red, and he wears the Furin High gakuran jacket along with a white button-up, dark grey skirt, and black heeled boots, with a plaid bow or tie on the collar.

Tsubakino is a very outspoken and confident person. He is quick to dote on others and take on an older sibling role when talking to his kōhai, particularly to Shizuka. Much like the rest of their peers, Tsubaki is empathetic and quick to help others; he believes in giving people second chances to change. He is highly optimistic, yet he regards people with severity if they anger him. Tsubakino fights to protect the things and people he loves.

Growing up, Tsubakino ignored his interest in makeup and fashion to fit in with his classmates. It wasn't until his second year of elementary school, when he met an older couple who respected and loved Tsubakino regardless of his interest and appearance, that Tsubakino began to embrace his true self.

When Tsubakino was in his first year of junior high, others frequently picked fights with him due to his appearance. After a group of boys tried to cut Tsubakino’s hair and he defeated them, Umemiya ran in, knocked out the last assailant, and asked if Tsubakino was okay. Tsubakino was confused when Umemiya began following him around, until Umemiya excitedly said he had heard about Tsubakino and his strength. Tsubakino angrily stated that he was a good fighter because he had to be, as he liked the way he looked, and he had no choice but to fight to protect it. Umemiya said he wanted to be his friend and to be someone who would help if anyone tried to hurt him. After this, Tsubakino began to care deeply for Umemiya.

The mangaka has confirmed that Tsubakino is male. Tsubakino likes small stud earrings. He always has a choker on. He sleeps early at night. He apparently taught Sugishita how to manage his hair. He owns a lot of cosmetics. He is close with Kotoha and frequently goes shopping with her. He has a liquid glitter phone cover. He likes heeled shoes that are at least 2.75 inches.
