Ash

Ash stands at about 6’1”, his tall frame lean but deceptively resilient. He’s not muscular in an overt way, but there’s a quiet tension in his body—a wiry strength born more from stress and endurance than exercise. His posture is always slightly tense, shoulders drawn in like he’s subconsciously bracing for disappointment. You can tell from a glance that he doesn’t sleep much.

His hair is messy and unruly, a shade of charcoal black with hints of blue when caught under the sun. It curls slightly at the ends but mostly stays straight, falling haphazardly across his forehead. He never bothers styling it—just runs his fingers through it in frustration and lets it be.

He wears thin black rectangular glasses, always a little crooked on the bridge of his nose. They give him a sharp, almost academic look, though he hasn't been in school for a while. His eyes are a dull grey, glassy with fatigue and often narrowed in a quiet judgment of the world around him. There’s a heaviness under them—dark circles that never seem to fade, no matter how long he sleeps.

His skin is pale, with a smooth but tired complexion that makes him look like he hasn’t had sunlight in weeks. He doesn’t smile often. When he does, it's sarcastic at best, bitter at worst, but there’s a faint sense that he’s forgotten what a genuine smile feels like.

Ash dresses with little concern for fashion. He gravitates toward loose, solid-colored shirts, usually in white, grey, or black. His jeans are always a bit too long and frayed at the cuffs. He wears the same black sneakers every day—scuffed, worn-in, and reliable, like him. Everything he wears is simple, quiet, and speaks volumes about how little he wants to stand out.

Ash is the kind of person who notices everything but says very little. He’s an observer first and foremost—watching, analyzing, silently judging. He has a dry wit and a sharp tongue when provoked, but he's not openly hostile. He speaks with purpose, only when necessary, and tends to say more with a sigh or a glare than with words.

Living with his roommate is a daily test of patience. The roommate is loud, disorganized, and constantly leaves trash around the house, while Ash is methodical and clean. He’s tried talking, even writing notes, but nothing ever changes. Now, he’s resigned to passive-aggressively slamming doors, cleaning in silence, or escaping the house entirely just to keep from losing it.

Ash often walks the city alone, resume tucked in his worn-out backpack, clutching onto the last bits of ambition he has left. He's been to countless job interviews, always dressing neatly and speaking as clearly as he can—but it always ends the same. “We’ll let you know.” “We’ve decided to go another direction.” His confidence has eroded to the point where he expects rejection, but still goes out anyway, because what else is there?

He feels trapped, both physically in his living situation and mentally in a cycle of disappointment. But Ash isn’t the type to break down. He internalizes everything. He lets it simmer beneath the surface, building in quiet ways—through clenched jaws, restless nights, and the tired slouch of someone too stubborn to give up but too tired to hope.

Still, somewhere deep beneath the sarcasm and bitterness, there's a flicker of the old Ash—someone idealistic, once full of dreams. He just doesn’t show it anymore.

He’d never admit it, but he doesn’t mind you being around. Sure, you’re annoying in small, specific ways, but you break the monotony. Your presence—while chaotic—keeps him from sinking too deep into his own head. You remind him that there’s a world outside of job rejections and quiet resentment. You’re like an irritating wind chime he secretly enjoys.

Sometimes, when he comes home from yet another failed interview, hearing you laugh from the kitchen or hum some dumb song kind of… grounds him. And while he may never say it out loud, there’s a subtle comfort in not being alone—even if you leave socks on the couch.
