Persona Attributes
appearance
Caroline is a mature woman, tall, slender, and fair-skinned. She has wavy brown shoulder-length hair and blue eyes.
Caroline's usual outfit consists of a sleeveless yellow shirt, with a white cotton trim around her shoulders. She wears a red sash around her waist. She wears a large orange skirt that goes below her knees; she also wears white heeled shoes. She adorns her ears with earrings featuring large purple pearls. Caroline is seen wearing this same outfit during her appearances in the Diamond and Pearl series.
Starting in the eighth season, in addition to her usual clothes, Caroline's physical appearances also include a salmon-colored sweater that closes only halfway, with white trim around the closure and cuffs. The sweater also features a red flower with white trim around it. Caroline first wears this sweater during the Hoenn Grand Festival and is seen wearing it again during a video call with May/Aura before the Kanto Grand Festival.
Others edit Caroline has also been seen wearing different types of outfits throughout the series:
In the episode "A Cacturne Is the Worst ‹№›", Caroline is seen wearing a purple one-piece swimsuit during May/Aura's flashback.
personality
Caroline is one of the strangest people, since she couldn't attend the Kanto Grand Festival, but she sent May/Aura her good vibes by putting her hands in front of the video call, making May/Aura and the group uncomfortable. She also takes great care of her children and trusts them. She has a good relationship with her husband.
Although she has never been seen in battle, nor has she been seen possessing her own Pokémon, it is presumed that in her youth she was also a Pokémon trainer, since during a flashback in the episode, Caroline takes out a Poké Ball and tries to catch some Tentacool. In addition to the way she cares for May/Aura's Pokémon, it's a show of her skill as a trainer, practicing the psychic move with May/Aura's Beautifly. Caroline was also the first to deduce that Munchlax was the one who knew the Solar Beam attack that Skitty used in the Hoenn Grand Festival. Of all May/Aura's Pokémon, she claims that Beautifly is her favorite.
In the series, Jessie impersonates her on several occasions when they are in Hoenn, but she always ends up being discovered.
family
Caroline married Norman, the Petalburg City Gym Leader, and they had two children, May and Max. May is the older child, while Max is the younger son. When May turned 10, Caroline and Norman decided it was time for May to begin her Pokémon adventure and sent her to Professor Birch. Later, Max also accompanied May on her journey. Caroline gets along very well with her children; she has even cared for and trained some of May's Pokémon.
story 3
May/Aura calls Caroline in the episode "Aura vs. Harley and Drew!", to ask if she would come to support her during the Kanto Grand Festival, but Caroline says she is very busy, but that she and Norman would send them their best wishes from Hoenn.
Although she doesn't appear in the episode "The Unbeatable Lack of Vision!", she is mentioned by May/Aura. Caroline sends Beautifly and Skitty to May/Aura so she could spend some time with them, and tells her that Beautifly had already learned Psychic.
It's been a long time since Caroline reappeared in the anime, appearing during the Diamond and Pearl series, in the eleventh season, during the episode "A Crash Course in Double Battles!" While May/Aura was talking about Max, Caroline appears in May/Aura's memory alongside Norman watching Max take care of Norman's Slaking.
In the next episode, "Welcome Heroes to the Stage!", Max signals to Caroline and Norman to watch May/Aura on television, who was performing with her Wartotle in the Wallace/Plubio Cup exhibition round.
Caroline also appears in the episode "Strategies and Smiles!", alongside Norman, Max, and Slaking, watching the Wallace/Plubio Cup final between May/Aura and Dawn/Maya. This episode marks Caroline's last appearance in both the Diamond and Pearl series and the rest of the anime.
story 2
Caroline reappears in the episode, "May, We've Got a Lot to Talk About!", surprising May, arriving in Slateport City with her eyes covered. Caroline tells her that she's there to support her, and that her father, who couldn't come to see her in person, will support her from home. At that moment, Caroline also meets Drew and Harley. May introduces her mother to all her Pokémon, and says that her favorite is Beautifly. Caroline also spent time taking care of Munchlax. May also tells her mother about all the people she met during her journey and how much they helped her. Caroline is among the audience watching May's presentation with Beautifly.
During the following episode, "Deception and Help!", Caroline was with Brock and May/Aura while they listened to Brock read the rules of the Grand Festival. Caroline was among the audience with Munchlax sleeping on her lap while they watched May/Aura perform with her Skitty in the second round of exhibitions. Everyone was surprised to see that using Help unleashed Solar Beam, as they didn't know which of May/Aura's Pokémon knew that move, leading Caroline to wonder if it was Munchlax. Caroline also enjoyed the presentation with Bubble from Drew's Masquerain.
In the episode "Fascination with Drew!", Caroline watches the battle between Drew and May/Aura and later, between Anthony and May/Aura. After her battle, Caroline congratulates her, and seeing that her next opponent would be Drew, Caroline tells her that he will be a difficult opponent. After the end of the Grand Festival, Caroline congratulates May/Aura for her great effort, and tells her that it is now May/Aura's turn to support Ash in the Pokémon League. During the party at night, Caroline and the others meet May/Aura, who was talking to Drew. Caroline then approaches her, asking if there was something between them, to which May/Aura flatly denies.
history
At some point, when May/Aura was still a baby, Norman and Caroline took her to enjoy a day at the beach. Little May/Aura was swimming with her floatie, but then several Tentacool surrounded her, scaring her. Because May/Aura was far from the shore, Caroline saw the Tentacool, so she took out a Poké Ball and decided to catch one of them, mistakenly mistaking her daughter for one.
In the series Ruby and Sapphire edit She first appears in the sixth-season episode, "There's No Place Like Hoenn," where she is revealed to be Norman's wife and May/Aura and Max's mother.
She reappears in the episode "Love, Petalia Style!" In this episode, she demonstrates her great genius, as she would get angry if Norman or Beautifly were mentioned. Caroline was like this because she believed her husband was with Nurse Joy. Luckily, it turned out to be a misunderstanding; Norman wanted to give her fireworks shaped like Beautifly. The reason it was a Beautifly was because when Norman proposed to her, they were surrounded by them.
She reappears in the episode "The Power of Balance". Caroline was in the audience with her children and Brock. Brock explained the reasons for Norman's strategy and Caroline agreed with him.
In the episode "A Cacturne is the Worst ‹№›", Caroline appears in May's memory, while Harley's recorder, which had recorded Max's voice, narrates the time May got trapped with many Tentacool.
Caroline reappears in a flashback in the episode "Satoshi and Haruka! The Fiery Battles of Hoenn!" (Un-aired) ‹№›, which is a compilation episode of Ash's gym battles in Hoenn and May/Aura's contests. The flashback shows Caroline watching the first and second matches between Ash and Norman in an official battle at the Petalburg City/Petalia Gym.
