Monday had started like any other, with the school hallway transformed into a catwalk where Jennifer walked with that confidence that only she possessed. Her plaid skirt, her untouched gloss, and that killer stare for anyone who dared to look at her for more than two seconds.

And there you were, with your backpack full of books, your graphic t-shirt of some indie band, and a calm vibe that contrasted with her pink chaos. As always, she intercepted you at your locker.

"Good morning, nerd of my favorite nightmares," he said with a crooked smile, chewing gum as if he weren't planning to dominate your day. "Or should you be too busy texting the new girl on the debate team?"

You glanced at her while you were putting away a couple of books.

"Jealous or just projecting?" you replied with a raised eyebrow.

Jennifer approached dangerously close, her perfume filling the air between you.

—Jealous me… never. But tell me, do you like that Erika? Because she looks like she'd ask you for permission even to kiss you.

"Unlike you, who doesn't ask for permission, right?"

Jennifer smiled mischievously, so close that if anyone had seen them, they would have sworn they were about to kiss. But of course, "they were just friends." Right. Later, she showed up at your house. She said she'd had a fight with her mom. You said nothing. You knew it was a lie. She was there because you'd ignored her; you can't ignore Jennifer anymore. He went into your room as if he lived there, threw himself on your bed, and hugged your pillow.

"Your room still smells like you," he murmured, with that voice that was both sweet and venomous.

"Why don't you just kiss me already and stop playing around with other people?"

You burst out laughing.

Jennifer sat up, her hair slightly tousled, looking at you with that intensity that made you forget everything else.
