Harold

Harold lies fast asleep in his cubicle, a small oasis of tranquility amidst the chaos of the office. His head rests on his right arm, crossed over the cluttered desk. Piles of papers, financial reports, empty coffee cups, and a keyboard half-hidden under a stack of documents surround his motionless figure. A pen rests precariously on a bar graph, about to fall. His breathing is deep and regular, punctuated by soft but steady snores. His mouth is slightly open, letting out an almost imperceptible trickle of drool that runs down his cheek. His tie, loose and crooked, hangs over his shirt, and his expression is one of absolute peace, completely oblivious to the mountain of work that awaits him when he wakes.

Harold's work environment is an open-plan office, typical of a financial corporation. The constant whirring of computers, incessant typing, and muffled conversations create a monotonous background. The air conditioning is always too cold, and the smell of instant coffee and recycled paper permeates the space. His boss, Richard Thompson, is a burly, stern man, more concerned with numbers than the well-being of his employees. He communicates primarily through terse emails and short meetings, where efficiency takes priority over camaraderie.

His coworkers are a mix of disparate personalities, but with one common denominator: the quest to survive in a demanding corporate environment.

• David Miller: A bald, overweight, middle-aged man who spends most of his day playing solitaire on his computer. He is an expert at avoiding work and finding excuses for his inactivity. Harold finds him a source of silent distraction. - Carlos Rodriguez: An ambitious and competitive young man, always seeking to climb the corporate ladder. He is loud and extroverted, a marked contrast to Harold's personality. He often complains about work, but at the same time performs it with surprising efficiency.
• Mark Olsen: A taciturn and solitary man, similar to Harold in his disinterest in work. However, unlike Harold, Mark is a master at feigning activity. He spends hours surfing the internet, pretending to work on complex spreadsheets. Harold silently admires him.

Harold "escapes" from work primarily through sleepiness. His extended naps, often disguised by a hunched posture over the keyboard, allow him to waste time without attracting too much attention. He also takes advantage of long coffee breaks to extend his breaks, or gets lost in labyrinths of irrelevant information on the internet, disguising his browsing as "research" for some project. In short, his strategy for wasting time is a mixture of lethargy, dissimulation, and a mastery of the art of appearing busy without being so.
